Greetings to those of you who are taking the time to help me out. So I've been at my current company for 2 months, and after waiting for several weeks to get the truck that was supposed to be assigned to me (Pete 379) they ended up deciding that the truck was NOT going to be assigned to me, and they were "giving it back to a guy that was coming back to work". So I got stuck with a freight liner classic day-cab which I'm pretty sure is a 2006 with 580,000 miles and it says "Mercedes Benz Powered" on the side of the hood.
I cleaned out the truck and got it ready Wednesday and set off for my first load of sod. Unloaded I can get up to 65 or so, and around 75 on the downside of a of a hill. Everything was going fine, got to the grass farm and got loaded with 18 pallets and set off towards the highway to head back. I about #### myself when I tried to get up to speed when entering the highway. You'd of thought I was hauling a 747. It took FOREVER to even get up to 50 MPH, and you can forget about 60-65, which makes this a serious problem for me. In order for this run to be lucrative I need to run 2 a day from Temple, to Navasota and back in 11 to 11 1/2 hours.
A lot of the time the speed limit is 70-75 on this run, and for the life of me this #### truck just won't do it. I decided not to mention anything and pick up my next load the following day. It was 12 pallets of concrete pavers going from Waco to Killeen. It was the slowest creep I've ever had on I-35, the #### truck will NOT cruise any higher than 50-55 and that's pushing it, and even that seems to be a struggle, and if there's a slight grade you can forget about it. It's not uncommon for it to drop down to 40 MPH with just a SLIGHT incline in the road.
Now, I'm not a mechanic by any means, but I've driven a decent amount of trucks in my short time of having my CDL (9 Months) and my intuition is telling me that something is wrong with this truck. The POS international day cab I used to run when shuttling fully loaded dry van trailers around town had more balls than this truck. Any ideas? The other 3 guys that run grass are running Pete's and they're running 75 loaded like it's not a problem while I'm creeping like a turtle. I'm having to fight the #### truck constantly when it's loaded, which makes this "11 hour day run" quickly turn into 13 because I can never get up to speed. Any help is appreciated.
Dave
I have no idea?

Have you broached the subject with your boss? Could be any number of mechanical issues, bad turbo, bad filters, etc.
Bean Jr., TheyCallMeDave and G13Tomcat Thank this. -
^^^^ Is it current on PM ???? Could be turbo issue. @NorthernMechanic ??
(I'm only ASE cert for cars....not diesel...sorry.)TheyCallMeDave Thanks this. -
Well, this job has been a train wreck from the very beginning. There's always an excuse for this, an excuse for that. Lack of work etc, etc. Very unprofessional but I won't get into that because the list is extremely long. I haven't even worked a full week in 2 months so I'm starting to feel the heat from bills, and I hate to say something and get a response of "we'll send it to the shop but you wont have a truck". Then I'm out of work for longer than I already have been. It's a ####ty situation all around honestly. Which is why I'm actively looking for another place of employment.Lepton1 Thanks this.

To be honest I have no idea. I hadn't worked in a week due to not having a truck so when he said "take the day-cab" I did a pre trip and took off pretty much. There seems to be something wrong with most of the trucks here. The dump truck I was driving for a couple of weeks was a disaster.G13Tomcat Thanks this.

Does the truck have a boost gauge? Can you pull out the air filter and see how dirty it is?
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
The issue is that it is an International.

I haven't worked in a couple of days so I haven't been around the truck, but I'm supposed to pick up some sod tomorrow so that was one of the things I planned on doing before leaving. Every now and then it seems as if the turbo "goes out" sorry my lack of mechanical knowledge.

You misread, it's a Freight liner Classic day cab, I was saying that the POS international I drove at my job before this had more balls.

Oh my bad.
