1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

I may be a little premature with this, but it looks like I may need a driver for my truck and van trailer due to a probable long term medical condition. I live in Central Florida, and I have my own trailer, so there won't be any trailer swapping involved. My truck is in really nice condition, as is the trailer. Do we have any Landstar qualified drivers out there looking for a ride? As I said, it may be a little premature, but I want to be prepared just in case. Please PM me if you are interested.

Thanks. I'll keep you all posted. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow. I put a lot of money into my truck, and I don't want to let it sit or give it back to the bank if I can't work. I'm hoping if I find I can't work, I can find a good driver. My next choice would be to sell it, but that's a last choice.

If you decide to sell, let me know what you have. Finding good drivers can be tough, and you'll most likely need to qualify them, plus orientation in St Aug. Craigslist is your best bet, as the Orlando Sentinel charges an arm and a leg. An ad on Lcapp might work as well. A word of advice though, only hire a driver that lives around here so you can inspect the truck every so often. I really wouldn't wish drivers on my worst enemy. You'd be amazed at the conditions my trucks came back in and I only hired experienced drivers with good records, including DAC.

I know what you mean. I'm hoping if I have to put a driver in it, I can find one who is older like myself and knows the ropes, maybe had a truck on with Landstar before. I'm probably asking for too much. The truck I have is a 2007 Volvo 780 D-12 automatic, and my trailer is a 2003 Great Dane stainless 53' spread dry van. I have all new virgin tires on the tractor, with equalizers on the tractor, and Centramatics on all wheel positions, including the trailer. The trailer has all virgin tires too, the front axle 75% or better, and the rear axle around 50%. I also installed new landing gear on it, as well as a new deck plate and door seals. The tractor also has an APU which was installed new in April. as I said earlier, I invested a lot of money in the truck. I'm hoping I can make it all work out.

I'd apply, but I'm in NW PA and I seriously doubt your insurance would touch me. Danged shame to, since that would deal with both our problems. Give you a driver willing to work and give me an opportunity to get back behind the wheel. (I'm figuring once you recover you're gonna want your truck back, of course.)

I am sorry to hear of your health problems, and I will pray that you will not have to stop driving. Positive thoughts headed your way.

Check into AFLAC disability insurance. It might cover your truck payments while you're down.

O.k., so here's an update. I went to the doctor, and he said the two halves of my heart aren't beating at the same time. This could cause a blood clot to form and result in a stroke. Obviously, I don't want to be driving down the road if that should happen.
So, he adjusted my meds and put me back on an aspirin regimen to thin my blood and hopefully it will return to normal on it's own. If not, I'll have to have it shocked to correct it. So, I'm off work for at least until next week. Hopefully it will correct itself and I can get back to work again. If not, my choices are limited, of course.
Oh well, that's truckin', as they say.
