Had a weird thing happen last night just east of charleston w.v.
I purchased a new ipod nano 8 gig about 2 months ago and have had no problems up until last eve.
I noticed my battery was about 30% so I reached over and plugged it in to its charger and placed it back on the dash tray (late model Volvo VN).
about 3 minutes later I smelled that "hot burnt wiring smell" that says
I unplugged it and it was smokin' hot - (burnt fingers)...
the charger unit was fine - and was not hot -...
I took the whole deal to the Apple service center (luckily we have one like 4 miles from the house) - and they replaced it (for free).
they said it had a short INSIDE the ipod...
point is - what if this had been at home? what if I plugged it in and walked to a neighbors house only to look over my shoulder to see flames?
not real happy with apple - and hope this is an isolated incident.
I-POD FIRE!!!!

Yeah, probably isolated.
I've had my 60gig ipod for about three years now with zero problems whatsoever. -
ouncing around on the dash of that volvo probably didn't help any

Yep, this is rare but it does happen with i-pods and I know someone who recently bought an apple laptop and their screen melted from an overheating issue. Of course Apple is doing the right thing here by replacing these rotten apples in the bunch asap, similar to the pc flavor laptops a while back that had their batteries melting down too. This cost dell and the other mega companies alot of dough.

I have never had that problem with my ipods
I dropped my first one and it stopped working and my second one is going on 3 years now and it still works
