what is everyone doing to bypass the idle shutdown - I have a 2019 Kenworth T680 - two situations that I ran in to

    1. I was in traffic and even though we were stopped at a certain point the truck went in to idle shutdown mode and actually shut down - I was in gear and brakes were released but I was not moving - we eventually moved a little and I just left plenty of room between me and the next car so that I could roll up which would reset the timer

    2. when I'm sitting in a truck stop every other truck is idling all night long ... except me - now I have an APU but there are times I wonder if its going to start - I would like to have the option to idle if needed

I have tried all the tricks that I have read or heard about - push the tractor protection valve in ... tried it - set the cruise and idle it up ... tried it

    I am open to suggestions

As was stated in the speed limiter thread you can get it changed by the dealer. These are just parameters in the software.

You used to be able to put on the cruse and bump up the idle. But I am not sure is that still works. If not, you are going have to have it changed in the ECM.

The idle might be controlled by the outside air temperature, you need a dealer or someone with the computer program to look at your settings. They can probably increase the idle time so it doesn't shut down if you're stuck in traffic. This Cascadia company truck I'm running will idle 30 minutes before it shuts down.If the outside temperature is below 40 degrees it will idle all night.

Halliburton had some 2019 t680's that I drove.I think they would only idle for 30 minutes.

The ECM can be "locked down" enought that no tricks will allow it to idle more than a couple of minutes. I've had 1 or 2 trucks like that. The tricks only work on trucks where the ECM isn't setup to prevent idling. An APU is adequate to keep truck batteries charged unless the batteries or APU are faulty.

If you own the truck and know the password you can have the ECM settings changed to allow idle. Some companies will fire you for bypassing idle time or speed limit settings.
