I am facing audit for motor carrier ifta/irp. What kind of fines are you talkin' when you say hefty? I am using drive log sheets and fuel receipts, but I already found a mistake when looking through past records. My quantity of fuel purchased for one quarter was reported more than I am coming up with on receipts. I am assuming I made a mathmatical error. Also missing some mileage on drive logs. Any recommendations? How much is this going to cost?
I started using its-dispatch software for ifta and it has been computing trips starting with correct odometer, but the odometer it computes is off from actual odometer, is this acceptable?
How did I get this job?:biggrin_25526:

Your state should have included some sort of sheet when you set up your IFTA and IRP with them, since both need the same mileage info each year. Wisconsin has them available on their website for free.

Sorry, I was pulling some generators for the hurricane up to Mass. No time to sleep much less get on here. If the trip sheets have the ITS odometer recordings, you should be able to slip on by as they don't inspect the truck or anything. My inspector asked me for a quarter within the audit time frame and said she would request more if she needed. My fines of $8,000 were entirely based on the fact that I didn't have odometer readings and my state breakdowns were computed by ITS and not recorded by the driver when he crossed state lines. To come up with that amount she knocked my mileage for the entire audit period (2 years or so) down to 4.7instead of the 5.6-5.7ish that it was, and I forfeited my IRP base state fees for the two years and had to repay them. Thank goodness, I only had two trucks at any given time during the period, I can't imagine having that done with 10 trucks! BTW, the supporting documents I provided proved I was being 100%honest, the fine was "merely" procedural.

Spending the money I spent with ITS on a IFTA service would have saved me 8k and those places are right around the same cost as ITS' service if you only have one truck.
