i think he is talking about taxes. It sounds like the previous owner didn't pay any 2290 fees. Since that is on the truck and not driver, the new owner of the truck has to pay it.

The former owner could not have gotten a cab card without proof that the 2290 had been paid. The new owner is not responsible for any 2290 taxes on the truck before he bought it. Besides, the 2290 is only $550/year and is prorated from July (about $43/month). That is far from the $10,000 that he mentioned. All he needs to do is title the truck in his name, go to the IRS, pay the 2290, prorated at this point and then go from there. He will need to pay the UCR in order to get his base plate, but that is less than $100. Depending on the state, he may be liable for sales tax, but that is on him and not from the previous owner, either. Perhaps he can come back and further explain what he meant.

So it turns out the guy from the state didn't know what he was talking about... The previous owner was running the truck illegally for years and I was at first told I would have to pay all tax backages and legal fees. Truth is, after hours of phone calls to two differant states, I owe none of that and all is good now. The truck should be on the road by Friday.

    Thank you all.
