All the answers cover everything. To avoid any surprises until you’re familiar with the process, I suggest budgeting $500 per quarter to settle up with IFTA. Main thing is to pay the lowest fuel price. Pump price minus pre paid Tax on pump. You’re going to pay each State their taxes regardless. Either upfront, or quarterly. It’s irrelevant, but at .40 cents per gallon average tax, 7 mpg avg. 150k miles per year. My calculator says you’ll pay roughly $8600 per year towards fuel taxes. Most or all of which will be upfront at the pump. For tax purposes all fuel receipts are added up, and all quarterly taxes are added up per receipts. So it’s irrelevant. Never thought about it though, until I read your question. Good Luck.

More irrelevant info. .40 cents per gallon divided by 7 mpg equals .057, or just under .06 cents per mile total fuel tax cost. Actual numbers may vary. Lol.

Agreed. That may be a little high but depends on where and how you run. Mostly running east of the MS about 100k miles or so a year I pay about
    $300-$400 per quarter.
