You think rollover is Preventable Accident?
-
yes.............
-
Ummmm... just missed a roll over last year after a drunk illegal pulled out in front of me... he was charged and I wasn't. A rollover during THAT accident would have been preventable... but if it's a single vehicle incident it's always on the driver....
-
I really hate that question on apps....."Preventable or unpreventable"
If I was going down the road and got hit by a meteor, they would still call that preventable. They would have said, should have been going a little faster or slower....tech10171968, HFC and rookietrucker Thank this. -
It depends on context. I assume you are referring to what criteria a carrier uses to determine driver accountability after an accident. If so the major componant is whether or not the driver acted in what the company sees as a "reasonably expected manner". It may or may not be an indicator of civil legal "fault". "At fault" and "preventable" are not necessarily the same thing. In other words the driver can be judged by the carrier for either how he acted or responded to conditions, or how he did not act. Usually a carrier has adopted policy(s) to define it for their use, which may differ from another carriers.
Best regards -
So true! Unpreventable accidents in trucking are a myth. Something mechanical could fail, but the safety psycho will probably ask you about the validity on your visual inspections, explain what actions you could have taken to prevent the mechanical failure (blame game), slap you with a preventable and then fire you.
Gotta love corporate politics!moujick and tech10171968 Thank this. -
Question for the O/P: Did you roll a truck? If so, what were the circumstances?
Rollovers are almost always preventable. If you were going around a 25mph git-on ramp at 25, you were going too fast. If you were going across Wyoming with a light load and pushed through in spite of the high wind warning, you should have shut down in Laramie. If you swerved to avoid hitting a deer, you should have plowed right over top of it. There are very rare circumstances in which a rollover is not preventable.moujick and MackDaddyMark Thank this. -
When I buy the truck that I have my eyes set on, one of the features it has is RSC (roll stability control). This wont stop the flip, it will however stop some of the things that might cause one otherwise. If your not familiar with it, Freightliner has it. The computer recognizes attitude of truck and your airbags and will alter brakes, (gads forgot the other 2 items my bad, I apologize).
Its really slick to have. I went through Lincoln Nebraska, there was a bridge you went under back in 87 that immediately there after had a unmarked construction lane change on it. The first time it caught me off guard and my co driver thought for certain we were going over. But the RSC kicked in and we continued with out any problems.
The second time through there I slowed to 40 mph. The co driver came up and asked WTF. We came around the turn and sure enough there was that lane change, and no problems that time.moujick Thanks this. -
This is called the new Freightliner "JUST HIT IT" button. Whenever you are in a situation of an invasive maneuver and feel the urge to swerve, you just hit the "JUST HIT IT" button also known as the "JHI"and whatever is in front of you will get runover! It really does keep you from swerving! No more unsightly preventable rollovers! Keep your eye out for the 2012 trucks the will have the new "THREE STAGE JUST HIT IT" button. This new three stage feature is compared to that of a Jake Brake. There are actually three stages of "JUST HITTING STUFF"! You can set it for "NICK" "CREAM" or stage three is "OBLITERATE"! Unlike the 2011 trucks with just the "OBLITERATE" option! There is a special one hour certification course you will need to take to operate this truck in the correct fashion, but just like any other trucking school you are guaranteed to pass! It's a mere $2200.00. There is government funding and grants and loans and pells and giveaways and lotteries. You can save all your food stamps and use those, sexual favors are accepted and depending on the course instructor you maybe able to bribe with drugs and alcohol! Also at the end of each fical year awards will be given to those who have used the "JUST HIT IT" button the most and also for the most unique stuff hit with the "JUST HIT IT" button. If you are a driver for Swift or Werner you are in luck. These companies will be testing all the new trucks first before anyone else. So watch out for Swift and Werner drivers demonstrating the use of their "JUST HIT IT" buttons! Also don't be surprised if you see them using the buttons on each other. This could cause a trifecta of hitting stuff! Especially in close quarter truckstop parking lots! It's kind of like crossing streams, you never cross streams! Good luck drivers!
