Currently in Florida. I drive for Airgas which is only a Class B. I have all endorsments but after a split, the ex and daughter moved to IL. It is complete bs having to start from scratch to transfer in the state of Illinois. Should I downgrade my liscense and go through a school bus company and get my B that way or just cough up the money for a transfer course at one of the local schools??? I need to be in my daughters life as she continues to grow.

Get the CDL-A permit and some food service companies will hire you and train you for the regular CDL-A.
Where are you in Illinois?
McLane Food Service hire drivers with a CDL-A permit and you run teams with an experienced driver while being paid at the same time. The experienced driver will train you for the CDL-A. You can make $70K at McLane and it's long hours but considered local work.
Sygma Network has the same program.EuropeanTrucker Thanks this. -
As I pointed out on your other thread, it will be like $300 for 1 lesson and use of the truck to pass the test. Coughing up that much is probably worth it if you already know how to drive.

Illinois DMV enjoys flunking people on the pre-trip test. They're known for that and they do it for simple things such as calling a gauge an indicator or vise versa. They won't let you take a road test until you pass the 150 point pre-trip inspection to their satisfaction.
They won't accept Illinois graduates from Maverick Transportation cdl school in Arkansas, because they don't like the training there. They want all Illinois students to attend school in Illinois. Maybe Maverick refused to pay bribes.Last edited: Jul 8, 2018

What are some other good companies in Chicago land area for new drivers? I just got my CDL few weeks ago. Thank you.

There's several.
Did you graduate from a cdl school?
Do you have endorsements?EuropeanTrucker Thanks this. -
Nope and nope. I could get endorsements but don't have any now. Thank you.

FFE (Frozen Food Express) trains in Chicago Heights at Prairie State College. It's free to you if you agree to work there for 12 months. They are a refrigerated carrier running 48 states. You already have a cdl, so you're way ahead of the others you'll be training with. Maybe they'll fast track you through the program.

Fastenal - might hire you as a driver trainee. They hire drivers with a cdl permit, so you should be ok. They are big in Chicago.
