I just saw on the "News" thing, drug testing is going to double in 2020 across the board. Half of ALL drivers will be tested, up from 25%. The article states, today, there is less than 1% that fail drug tests, that's 99% drug free. I'm sorry, that's pretty good for ANY industry. It went on to say, it will cost carriers between $50 and $70 million dollars MORE to comply with that. Now, I'm not for druggies driving our trucks, but does anyone else think this is a money making scam and will be yet another nail in the coffin for these carriers, who are barely making it as it is. This drug testing BS is out of control in an industry strapped for drivers as it is. Are the roads really that much safer? Guilty until proven innocent, and there's money to be made because of that farce.:dontknow: When, if ever, are you guys going to put a stop to this baloney? Be drug testing to buy a freakin' McDonalds hamburger soon.

I would not be surprised. Too 1984 for me (Orwell story)

I dont like truckers being altered while running 40 tons flying dutchman. (A old sea song related to a ship of dead trying to capture and kill those who are alive in their ships at sea dating to Holland 1650's)

But they have been joyfully working on these regulations and applying it to us all. Congress passed that in 2015 and here we are. I am clean as the next person but under the new laws it might be possible given my history it may make me economically unhireable anywhere. As damaged goods.

If that turns out to be a reality before I hit 60 I will give very serious thought to being a Expat for the rest of my life living in some third world nation leveraging our exchange rate to double or triple apparent local economy funds so I can have servants wait on my household hand and foot. America by then would be a failed state. A impossible situation. This is not a political post, this is strictly a economic one.

I would not mind some of that big cheeseburger if they dare to test me for it. I'll show them what a hot positive looks like if Cheeseburgers were banned or somehow made into a controlled product. //SATIRE.

Hands off that sirloin lean 2/3 pound burger with seaseame bun and all the trimmings down to bacon.

I was hoping you'd see this, you have a voice of reason here, I have a tough time expressing what I want to say, ( and get in trouble for it sometimes, I was a trucker, not a politician) I'm just saying it's been over 30 years, they did what they set out to do, weeded[sic] out the druggies, and have it so regulated, druggies probably would never do this job again anyway. It was the simplicity of trucking that got them there in the 1st place. With companies running on the brink of going under, how is this going to help? It's a pile of cash the feds will strip clean, because all other modes have been exhausted to fund their shenanigans. They just don't get the connection between over regulating these companies until they go under and their strawberries at Wallymart. Does the airline industry even have 100%? Be fun to see how this all pans out from my kitchen table. Good luck with the future of trucking, folks.

I have a friend that dispatches at a Wisconsin freight company, and she said they just "acquired" 2 more companies. She didn't say which ones, but smaller ones that never would have made the news anyway. This is gonna hurt, you'll see. I've always thought, after I retired, how long this foolishness will go on. Wouldn't it be something if 2020 was the year for catastrophic trucking failures?

Nothing really new here. Before 2016 it was always at the 50% test rate. When the positive rate dipped below 1% for a few years they dropped it to 25%. I always thought that the positive tests wouldn't stay below 1%. So now it will be 50% again. Probably forever.

Your company is required to test, at present, the equivalent of 25% of their drivers at random every year. Or belong to a consortium that administers the program. This doesn't mean that if a company has say 100 drivers that 25 of them will get tested. It means that, at random, 25 tests will be given. Some drivers can be randomly picked more than once while others never get picked. Luck of the draw thing.
If your company just never tests at all outside of pre-emp then they are asking for trouble.

Maybe they count the drivers being tested when they are hired, 3/4ths of them quit and are replaced by new drivers that get tested.

I've never been tested other than pre employment but they always say that we might get tested. Ok then, I'll be fine anyway.
