Was it Tom Sawyer that said " Do the thing you fear and the death of fear is imminent"? Well anyways who ever wrote it did make some sense, with any kind of driving whether your in a car, medium sized truck or a full sized 40 ton tractor trailer one needs to drive and adjust to the conditions keep in mind a large truck can pull up ok even at high speeds although it will take a much longer distance hence the reason to drive to the conditions generally one leaves a 3 -4 second gap between the vehicle in front to allow enough distance to stop those that don't well there's lots of pics in here of examples of results when they couldn't stop in time. With the right kind of training you can learn how to master a huge rig and drive it all across the country side too.

@ajax1337 You have one very good thing going for you... Where you just barely started driving any vehicle at all, you have yet to develope a lot of the bad habits that so many 4 wheelers out there seem to have.

I drive my 4 wheeler a lot like my 18 wheeler... I change lanes the same, I signal the same, I follow the same distance behind other vehicles, I pass the same, I even catch my self taking corners wide like I was in a truck at times, I treat grades in much the same fashion as well. With the exception of the cornering these are all good habits to develop for all your driving needs... Regardless of what type of vehicle you are in.

So as you are driving you 4 wheeler around you can practice a good portion of the kind of driving that is required for a 40 ton rig. Be safe, be smart, be humble. But never be afraid to learn.

    Good luck.

I spoke with a Prime Inc recruiter today and found out they want at least 1 year with a drivers license so they're out of the question. I'm gonna reach out to Schneider later today and find out if it's the same.

Sygma Network and Sysco have their own driver training program.
They hire drivers with no cdl as "Driver Trainees" or "Driver Helpers." That's what you have to apply for.

One of the greatest adjustments beginner drivers have a hard time making is understanding the physics of the tractor-trailer. Tractor-trailers are articulated which means the connection between the steering of the tractor produces different types of movement outputs compared to straight trucks. Most often, the articulated concept of tractor-trailer physics is noted by drivers when reversing/backing into a dock.
