Anybody know why the stock 525 N14 came with bigger injectors than the 460 up-ratable to 525 N14...?? Different injectors but the same horsepower, allegedly. What's the difference between the two and if I put a set of the stock 525 ones in my up-rated 460 will it have any adverse affects?

    tips size most likely.

I had an old '82 6.2 diesel Blazer with the course thread injectors. They wanted like $100 a piece to replace them.

I sent them out for $25 a piece and had them rebuilt at a diesel injector shop and put them in myself.

Got 24-26 mpg with that truck and tons of power.

The way it was explained to me by a Cummins lover was that the whole control system was set up differently for the different power rating, the ECM was also different as well as the injectors. Fuel delivery is set up by pressure, flow, timing, and duration.

He claimed the stock 525s ran better, and having run a few of them, I'd tend to believe him. Souping them up needed to extend the length of the injection pulse to get more fuel delivered through the smaller orifices in the nozzle tips. It probably affected other things besides horsepower.

I was also told the 2050 torque ones ran better, too, but that wasn't available in most applications, except as part of an off road package.

Well the injectors were 500 apiece and then 650 for labor and an overhead. All in all I was in the shop for 3 hours. Next time I'll look at this PP injectors but I needed fixed as I am under a load of pipe.
