I’ve don’t these a couple of times, and a friend of mine said “you need to coat them with Tranny fluid” I’ve never done that, nor have I heard this before, what’s the benefit of doing that?

A manual clutch brake is designed to be lubricated. The grease that purges the back of the Throw out and onto the clutch brake is normal. If operated dry it will prematurely wear the friction off the brake

Is oil good for brake shoes, brake pads, or clutch discs? I've not heard everything, and I guess I could've missed something, but I've put in many clutches for customers that I saw through to the next clutch. I've never heard or seen that done, and I've never done it.

I don't ever remember having to replace a clutch brake I or my shop installed either.

It doesn’t make logical sense to put grease on a brake at all. But Eaton says otherwise. Look it up.

It is just suppose to slow the input shaft for gear engagement, not stop the truck.

Just listened to a quick video on YouTube. It didn't recommend greasing, just mentioned not to worry if grease from the TO bearing gets on it.

All good either way. I honestly don't believe it prolongs life of the brake. Just from my experience.

I think back to all the bell housings completely soaked inside from rear mains leaking. Looking up at the clutch brake with oil dripping off. No performance issues there.

If you feel it helps, it obviously ain't hurtin.

Put a dry brake it a unit with a hydraulic assisted clutch and a inexperienced driver and it is easy to smoke the brake or break the tabs off. With lube, not so much.

We all are not equally as hard on things.

A lot of off-road stuff have wet clutches and wet brakes. A "true" automatic transmission (like an Allison) has oil soaked friction material. Even a posi in a pickup truck has wet clutch discs.
