I understand where you are coming from but if it’s the choice of having to fight a binder or it be a little on the “greasy” side, I’ll go with greasy.
I always try to keep the ratchet mechanism well lubed also, that’s where it can run out and get some on the handle or get a little on you when you reverse the ratchet pawl. -
When I didn't go to college I figured on getting dirty so it's ok.
-
What kind of lube are you using that works for you? If a guy is in dusty/dirty conditions could you use graphite lubricant spray on the threads to attract less grime?
Back in the day when we started custom combining out of high school we used binders to tie the combines down and remember those things would sometimes twist up and make you mad. I didn't want to put anything on the threads cause I knew stuff would stick to them and make it worse.4mer trucker Thanks this. -
I use motorcycle chain wax drys in a few minutes

I use Fluid Film, @Dye Guardian recommended it I think and it works really good. I think attracting dirt isn't a big deal, dirt in a bearing or something is a big deal but dirt on binder threads isn't a big deal. As the treads go in they just push the dirt off and the oil still works.Dye Guardian, 4mer trucker and SAR Thank this.

I was told when I started to use WD40 which I have been after each use I give them a quick spray before putting them back on rack. You don't like WD40 on them?4mer trucker Thanks this.

Gear oil works best for me. Lube them up almost every time afte I use them befor putting them away. That way they are ready to use them next time.

Copper grease in a spray can.
