There is a lot more complicated states. I wish mine was in IL. You can contact authorized agency and for the small fee they'll get you everything you need pretty quick. It's worth it, better then waste your time.

It is not a waste of time to get your own IRP plates. Well maybe in Illinois. Here in Wisconsin simple internet application and in a few days the plates arrive in the mail. I believe you have to have a physical address where you base your plates. There are some agencies out there that will process the application for you. Some services will get you an out of state office so you can have cheaper plates. I have never researched these. Good luck.

you have to get your IRP plates in the state your business is located,,if you have a home office and live in one state and terminals or business locations in other states you can register and get IRP in those states, The business address on your insurance must also match the state you register in.

Illinois is a good state to base in,,

After your first year running and you do your IFTA and IRP filings to register the next year the cost will be the same in most states since you pay your registration using the percentage of miles traveled in each state.
For example if you register for 10 states and you run 20% of your miles in Illinois and the rest you run 8.9% of your miles in the other 9 states you pay 20% of Illinois registration fee and then 8.9% registration fee for the other 9 states,
Some states like Nevada you will also pay a government service or personal property tax based on the percentage of miles again,,
Arizona has the highest fee for plates ,
Register for 48 states only cost a couple hundred more if register for a few states and want to add more during the year it cost you more money,,

Adding or dropping states off IRP is thankfully a thing of the past.
