welcome to trucking
there aren't many that will actually get you home when you request, no matter what the deal is you need be home for.
I've worked for 4 companies. And it comes down to an argument. I threaten to come home empty and they threaten to fire me.
Is it illegal

ok, no it is not illegal.
but then too, you claimed you reminded them 2 weeks ago.
it has been my experience that one needs to remind the dispatcher at least every 2 days or so, up to the appointment day.
there are things the dispatch is always working on for other drivers, and no dispatcher can remember every driver's request. so it would have been up to you to be a constant reminder.
i been in this game for a lot of years now, as many others here have as well. so i cannot put 100% of the blame on the dispatcher. if you are new, then you need to smarten up as to how in the future you make sure you make it to any appointments you have, or family functions, etc, etc.
do not be so quick to put the blame on someone else, for your lack of knowledge, in how to work the system,MachoCyclone Thanks this. -
No it's not.You need to reschedule your doctors appt.
-
Illegal? I dont know but I have always been told, they cant deny you medical attention.
Again, I dont know but I'd say that if a person had a concern & made a Dr's appointment & they denied you time to attend that appointment & it ended up being something serious like cancer & it was another month before you could get another appointment & it progressed.... I'm afraid they'd be in a heap of trouble. Well, if it was me any way.
Even if its a common cold & it turns into pneumonia because they denied you that Drs appointment.....
Dangerous or not, the bottom line here is, as I understand it, they can not deny you medical attention.bottomdumpin Thanks this. -
Dispatchers do not have to remember, it gets put in the computer, it is a constant reminder until it's removed, been that way for decades now, unless you are local or doing some other type of driving.
-
True, Remind the dispatcher and don't get your feelings hurt if he doesn't remember every little thing. Communication is the key, and keep records of how many times you tell them and when.
-
you would think so. i have worked for long haul companies in my past. yeah, it get's "put into the 'puter", that is still NO guarantee it'll pop up either..BTDT...
-
Why are you asking if it's illegal? Do you want to sue them for big $$$?
-
That's what I was thinking, original post almost made me mad.

I think too many people can't think for themselves and depend on a "law" or "regulation", thinking that will "protect" them.MachoCyclone, Balakov100, ncdriver1 and 1 other person Thank this.
