Is this wrong or would it be fairly common?

I am getting my CDLs soon, and the school is pushing a certain company. But, I have my eye set on a different company that seems to have a pretty intense and lengthy hiring process. I can't afford to not be working 2-3 months, would it be wrong to take the offered job from the school until I can get through the process with the place I want to be with or should I suck it up and either work awhile with the schools company or just wait to be processed by the company I want and drive fresh for them?

 

Most schools get some sort of kickback. If you have a clean mvr etc I can’t see any company taking 2 to 3 months.

 

Suck it up. You starting and then quitting is not going to look good with the company you want to get hired on with.

I had 2 jobs in my 30 years of working life, and the guy that hired me said that was the biggest no brainer reason why he knew he was going to hire me before I even interviewed.

 

But yes, kickbacks do the talking. My school was pushing Werner dollar tree or whatever telling us all what a great opportunity it was. My colon was full of the smoke they were blowing up there...

 

Dollar general is the worst job in trucking.

 

Sounds like a good question for the recruiter for the company you really want to work for. If they say it will take several months and you can't afford that, then your question has been answered and you can move on down the road. But if that's a training period you'll get paid for that, so it might not be as bleak as it sounds. The only way to know for sure is to ask the company, not strangers on the internet.

Don't let the school choose for you.
If the company you want to work for hires new cdl grads. then go with it.
Probably a dozen or more companies you can work for until your preferred company hires you.

 

If you take one those jobs delivering to Dollar General or some account like that with Werner; you taking a big gamble on your next job that you really want. It's common to bump a car in those crowded parking lots while backing a sleeper truck and a 53' trailer. Once that happens, even if it's a minor bump, it goes on your DAC report, then the company you really want; may not hire you. Especially if you want tankers. Take the easy/safe route; maybe teaming back and forth to California; drop & hook and home a couple days a week.

I really never even thought about the accident thing with DG but that makes sense. Heck they make the DG driver in my hometown unload while blocking a lane and half of a street because loading dock isnt angled on the building. Definitely not what I want.
