i don't think what you say holds true.
cuz wyoming and nevada don't do a thing. arizona also seems pretty lax along with utah and idaho and montana.
now, cali and colo on the other hand.
Isn't this illegal?

I think this is a dupe thread? Like I said in the other, probably a driver parked where he shouldn't of been and drew the DOT's attention. Then he blabs Chicken Little.
But drivers do have to obey leo's regardless. If they force an inspection you have no choice but to comply and restart your 10. No signature will exempt you from a break interruption. If you have an inspection report you have a time stamp. No magic pen will fix that. It sucks but that is the way it is. I never had that happen but have heard of it.
One could attempt to not answer the door. There is no regulation for being a deep sleeper. But many can't help themselves, they want to see that lot lizard. Dang it's the fuzz, lol.Down the road and Autocar Thank this. -
It would be a hilarious conversation with me. An hour after I eat an Ambien a conversation with me is like talking to a drunk child.

So kind of like talking to me any time.VisionLogistics Thanks this.

I have had different luck than most I would assume. I once was parked on an exit sleeping as the truckstop was full so I had no other choice. While busy minding my own business sleeping a DOT officer began to knock on my window. I rolled the window down and he informed me I had to move. I stated I am busy taking my 10 hour sleeper break and I would move when that mandated break was over and then rolled up the window. The officer continued to knock on my window so I rolled the darn thing down again and asked can I help you. He then stated either I move off the ramp or he is going to inspect my truck. I stated that he is more then capable of inspecting my truck but not to bother me again until my required 10 hour break was over with. I then rolled up my window while he was still talking and I went back to sleep. When I woke up a few hours later he was gone and I went on my mary little way. Yes I would say to an extent you have to listen to LEO but when they want you to disobey a mandated regulation than you don't. Maybe I am lucky when dealing with rude DOT officers but seems to work the way I handle things. Either they can sign my logs stating they broke my break requirment and thats why I now have to run illegal or they can leave me alone and try to catch me before I get on with my day after my full sleeper reguirment is fulfilled.Meltom Thanks this.

I wasn't aware that inspections were meant to be used as a coercive tool or for punitive measures. I'm pretty sure that's not how the feds intended inspections to be used either. They might be interested in discussing this with the LEO that made that statement.
I wonder how the LEO would take it if you woke him up at 2am at his home and told him that you need him to get up, clock in and inspect your truck... -
It's good you got your way just because he just wanted you to move. He didn't feel like taking it to the next level. He's not breaking any rules either other than being a butt. You can drive in a 14 hour window but work line 4 forever. He's not forcing you into a violation but back on the clock is all. I would of done the same thing you done except park there. I would of went down the road to the next possible spot. I know stuff like that just invites a knock at the door and I don't like being interrupted.
One time at the J outside Phoenix a 4-wheeler was killed at the ramp below by a truck driver. It was the 4-wheelers fault. Out of rage a leo come up to the J and started harassing every driver not parked between the lines. I was like WTF? Standing about 6'6' and a gun on his side I wasn't going to argue with him when he said he would arrest me. There are one's out there that can be a royal pain. I even called the state police and they told me to go ahead and move. Luckily a spot opened up and I slid in it. Since then I made sure I park where I won't be bothered.
Unfortunately like all professions have bad apples. Some will abuse their authority and use little tricks like pull a driver over for a secondary violation and use an inspection as an excuse. -
I get woke up at 0200 on a regular basis, and the night support guys laugh and write down the time. I think they're trying to cross out every minute of the night.

Nothing illegal about LEO knocking and asking to perform inspection. If the inspection is performed you probably will need to start your 10-hour break over. You may be on duty after 11 of driving, or after your 14 is over, put you cannot legally drive.
