Nope, sure didn't. For some odd reason though, it doesn't surge as much anymore. It was winter during the time the problem occurred, so maybe that was the variable. If it comes back when the temp gets cold again, I'll know it's probably related.
It used to surge all the time, literally. Now it only does it once or twice a month, usually after having run long trips (750+ miles a day) so I really don't know. I took it to Portland Cummins, and the senior tech decided to leave a breaker bar in the front gear set then started the engine.
So after they fixed all of the damage, they washed their hands of it, never having actually figured anything out.
-
UPDATE: It still runs like crap, and I've averaged 4.8 MPG for the last IFTA quarter. Today, a new code was thrown though- for the *drumroll*...... EGR Differential Pressure "High" condition. Maybe you guys were right. I'm heading to the shop after I drop my load on Monday, and will have them diagnose the problem. I'll be soooo happy if it finally fixes this nightmare. It's real hard to make a profit when you're stuffing hundred dollar bills into the tank every day.

Actually, we just had a truck in with surging issues. Had the regular stuff done, no luck. We found the main engine block ground was no good. Once we cleaned all the ground cables everywhere it ran awesome! Have a look at that.

Hey you left me hanging!! what happened, was that delta-p the problem? I hope it worked for you! Rawze mentioned that it should be replaced after so many miles, and the 2 pipes cleaned out. Mine started doing that the other day but its been sitting for 5 months with the same fuel in it. Thanks Heavyd i'll check my cables, my ammeter is always slightly to the pos and the little red light on it flashes on once in a while.

there is no delta-p on cm870. Correct me if I wrong.
-
Hmm, I believe it is underneath the egr pipe whereas on the 871's it is located on top. It has the two small pipes feeding into it from the big pipe. On the newer engines they sit prominently on top, now I hope this is what the darn thing is. It measures about 2x2 in. and is square. I was kinda hoping to get that out of vision logistics, but maybe I am mistaken, thanks carbass.

I'm the O/P. My surging stopped when I had ECM replaced. It'll still burp 10-15 seconds after starting. But much less noticeably, and it never affected performance of the engine.
Heavyd Thanks this.
