My 89 year old dad passed last year. Always the entrepreneurial and quite wealthy .

He Loved to drag me to these free investment seminars for a free drink or dinner. Invitations never end once you go to 1.

    He Loved the entertainment.

Naples Florida is full of high rollers, and Scams begin and end here monthly .

No such thing as easy money , I know that even though my father made his share of it back in the day .

As much as I dreaded going to some of the seminars , seeing the people that were buying into the Con became somewhat entertaining though Sad.

The Pitch some of these people make is soo pitiful but unbelievably a handful of people bite on it.

As my dad always preached and we all know it

A Sucker is Born every minute .

The absolute worst part about all of that will be the plethora of idiots who got taken for a Rico ride that will come to TTR complaining about the ride and trying to figure out WTF is wrong and where is their money.

If they’re really that stupid, they deserve to get taken. Then again, there are millions out there that actually think that they can just go out and buy a truck, and money will magically appear.

“Oh, I have a business degree. I am smarter than all of you, but I need your help in telling me why I am not making any money. Since I am smarter than all of you, I want you to tell only what I want to hear.”

And 15 people will find 15 different ways of saying, “ You don’t know what the hell you’re doing/sell your truck.” And genius will get upset 15 different times. And so, with this scam, if someone comes and asks why and how they lost their money, tell them what they want to hear, “you worked more than 2 hours and the money was made while you slept and vanished as you woke up. So, work less and sleep more and you will make more money.”

When I first read the original post, I did not realize that it was one of those get rich fast schemes bait. I though that a regular person was sharing her ill conceived opinion.

So a prospective victim of the scheme is told:
    1. The used equipment is inexpensive.
    2. The business premise is simple ( transport products from point A to point B)
    3. The craft is none: who would not know how to drive a truck? Someone else will do it for them anyway.
    4. It costs only a few hundred to become a carrier.
    5. Fleet management is going to be handled by the dispatch service.

Now I can see why some people, e.g. retirees with extra cash, might fall for the residential income lure. I wonder what these people are told about auto liability and cargo insurance cost for new entrants. Maybe this is played down, if not discussed at all during the seminar.
Of course, maintenance costs and equipment amortization is not touched at all.
