I had mentioned it casually in other threads but wanted others to know about this product I've been using now for about two years.

Its a software program that uses your already paid for data plan you have with your Smart phone. The cost is around 30 bucks, one time fee but its worth every penny.

It works flawlessly, I recently purchased the Garmin 465T, and downloaded a 2 gig file through my cell phone in 5 hours. I normally get 1.5 meg down and 500 to 600 k up, basically DSL speeds.

    REQUIREMENTS:
    Smart phone w/ data plan.

Works on Blackberry, Android, Iphone, Palm, Windows mobile.

Anywhere you can make a phone call you can connect to the internet as well. 99/100.

I use Verizon because the coverage is second to none

Your talking about PDAnet, it's a great program.

In case no one's noticed, I like to jump in when I can and plug my OS of choice, and I'll do it again here. Ubuntu Linux and Linux Mint recognize most phones and will use them as a modem with very little setup, and no software what so ever.

However you do it though, use it sparingly if you don't have the proper plan for it. My Samsung Propel from AT&T tethers nicely, but it has the $20 unlimited data, but only for the phone. If they find out your tethering to a laptop they'll ding you good. I have a Sprint EVDO card as my primary connection, but coverage is spotty in Mississippi and Louisiana, and I find myself down there every other week or so. I'll tether my AT&T phone then, grab my email, browse a few sites and sign off. Been doing that for years, they haven't caught on. But i wouldn't do it on an every day basis.
