Hello my name is Sherrod. Currently a student in truck driving school and plan to begin my new career in February. I have been putting in a lot of applications so I don't not know where I'm going to be working, but somewhere where I can learn a lot. This is something I have wanted do when I was a child and now I've finally took the leap. I reside in Detroit Michigan. I am thinking about relocating to the to Dallas area. If you have any advice for me I would love to hear it thank you.

Dallas, TX is good; no personal income taxes there. Plenty of good trucking jobs in Dallas/Ft. Worth.
Some companies that hire drivers out of Detroit may not hire in Dallas or visa/versa. Keep that in mind, and keep companies aware you're willing to relocate to Dallas. Most OTR companies do hire in Dallas though.
Are you getting all the endorsements? What type trucking do you want? Flatbed/van/refrigerated/tankers?

I plan to do dry van or reefer when starting out so I can learn how to drive the truck correctly.my biggest hurdle as of now is getting companies to hire me with no experience and a felony on my record.I feel like I should be okay once I get my foot in the door because I have good work history in the last 5 years and I am serious about this profession. People do make mistakes in this world and I have made some but I payed the penalty and shouldnt have to keep paying the penalty.I am really willing to relocate anywhere that is a major city or metro area to a major city. So I will just have to see what happens when I graduate from school on the 30th of January. I hope to be going to orientation somewhere on the 1st of February or second.

Do you have a relative or friend in Dallas? May consider using their address on some job applications then after moving to Dallas, change your drivers license to Texas. If the address is questioned by a trucking company, tell the truth, I'm relocating to Dallas and that will be my address for now.

How long ago was the felony? Several companies will hire you anyway. Some companies don't care even if the felony is recent and some look at it on a case by case basis.

Dallas/Ft.Worth is good for trucking jobs.
Houston, TX is excellent for trucking jobs.

Con-way Freight hires in Texas and is based in Romulus, MI
Navajo Express - refrigerated and looks at felonies case-by-case.
    Freymiller - refrigerated
    McCurdy M.W. & Company - Houston, TX
Mid-west Coast Transport - terminal around Dallas area.
    Halvor Lines
    Pride Transport
    Paschall Truck Lines
    Schneider
    Western Express
    J&R Schugel
Wil-Trans - running ads in Detroit and also hires in Texas.
    JBS Carriers

If the felony is over 5 yrs. old, it won't have much effect anyway on hiring.

The felony may be a issue, pending how long ago it was, most want 10 years, good luck
