I have been driving for almost 8 months and it has been a long hard road with the company I am with. Most recently I have only been running around 1400 miles a week and making around $300 a week and that is just not cutting it anymore. I have been wanting to get in to flatbedding for some time now and I figured TMC was the place to go. I like the structure and how strict they are. Not to mention, they have the best looking trucks on the road. I applied when I got in from my load this morning and I was wondering how long it usually takes for them to review your app and get back to you? I figured if I hadn't heard anything by tomorrow afternoon, I would call them and check to see if anyone has reviewed it yet.
Also, lets say that I get invited to orientation and I pass orientation and everything. I have a vacation planned for a week in may. Plane tickets have already been bought and everything is already paid for. If I tell them up front (before I even go to orientation) about the vacation, do you think that they will allow me to be off for that week? I can show receipts that indicate the date the tickets were bought so that they don't think I am trying to bs them and get a week off. The tickets are non-refundable and I do not want to eat $600 in plane tickets. However, I do not want to endure another 3 months of $300/week checks. And before anyone says it, yes I know that the week off would be without pay.
Just applied with TMC!

The way I figure it, I work a 2 week notice with the company I'm at so I can leave on a good note in case I ever need to come back. That puts me at orientation mid march. Then 2 weeks of that takes me to the beginning of april. Then 2 weeks with a trainer puts me to mid april. That would give me 2 solo weeks before I go on vacation. That's how I'm trying to plan all of this out. I guess I will have to call tomorrow being that I didn't get a call from them today and I can see what they say.

I just sent in a pre hire for them today and was told too wait a day or two then call them and make sure that they got it

The good thing about trucking, you can usually take vacation whenever you want.
Just tell them up-front and you'll be fine.SheepDog and BulletProof Thank this. -
Thanks SHC and Roll Tide from down here in Alabama.

Hold it. Aren't we supposed to be making fun of TMC drivers here?

Not nice Semi Crazy. I'm sure they have their idiots just like every other company. Although, it would seem that they have fewer idiots than most other companies. Is it just me or do the flatbed guys always seem to be "different" than the van/reefer guys. They always seem to be more laid back and I guess you could label it as "cool".

I drove for TMC and they are/were a good company to drive for. Only a few things I can say that I don't like; 60mph, their CB and tarp pay sucks! Other than that, they kept me busy and I always got home on the weekend. Some of the guys in the shop are A-holes but, thats everywhere so whatever, just get thick skin and you should have that anyway, if you plan on pulling a flat. All the best.
BulletProof Thanks this.
