Can you afford private cdl school? The state will pay for it since you're laid off.
If you need to get started sooner, then look at trucking company schools.
East-West Inc. (www.goeastwestinc.com) is located in Swannanoa,NC. Dry van trucking. One week of classroom then hit the road doing a few local runs, then 10 - 12 California turns with your trainer. Don't know the details on meals, lodging at Swannanoa during classroom training. I believe you're on the payroll from day one; the day classes start. Can run coast to coast or stay east.

Millis Transfer - Eden,NC and you will need $500.00 processing fee to get started. Eastern states running.

Veriha Trucking - home weekends or can stay out longer. Their school in Marinette,WI and provides transportation to get there. Meals & lodging provided. Eastern states running.

Jim Palmer Trucking - coast to coast refrigerated trucking. School in Missoula,Montana and transportation,meals, lodging provided.

Contract Freighters (www.cfidrive.com) - coast to coast dry van trucking. School in Joplin,MO; transportation, meals, lodging provided.

Hmmm, been years ago,but when I did mail (believe it or not) the daycab I had would peg the speedo,cause like you said,we were never late. Fastest daycab I ever drove or saw for that matter. I did not know USPS forced contractors to cut their trucks down.

Yeah, I've seen McCormick leaving Columbus OH some nights.

I was able to wash the dust off the windshield of my car just in time to see his marker lights fade into the horizon.

I did not know you could order a Mack condo with a jet engine under the hood.......

Yeah, the speedo on mime stopped at 85 ,but judging the tach still climbing, I believe it was a triple digit day cab. = me , = everybody else!
