Thanks for the post about this I am going to Werner orientation very soon and because I havent been in a truck for awhile I have to do a 140 training period to brush up on my skills and I guess to reassure them I wont be a terror behind the wheel which I completly understand and accept without any problems. Your post was great and informative cause I am nervous about what will happen when I finish up my 140 hours as far as them having no spaces available in the TCU, Dedicated or 48 states runs. Course it may change over the next 3 to 4 weeks and I hope that everything works out for you too. Good luck to you and be safe out there

Based upon your post.. I asked Werner what the heck was the deal.. They claim there is no hiring freeze, and that there are definitely openings in 48, Western Regional (that's my area), and that there was even a dedicated route available in the next town over.. (but no guarantee that the dedicated would still be there by the time I finish training)
Are there any special circumstances to your situation ? .. She did not say that all regions had openings, and she did turn me down for Temp Controlled for nothing in my area... but 48.. is everywhere.. So it doesn't make sense that "nothing" is available.
Just curious, as I am heading out this weekend for orientation.. although I could cancel it for plan "B" -
Go with plan B,what ever it is.I talk to a friend who I havent heard from awhile,anyway,he went to werner after trucking school,he told me he had bad exp.He said his first trainer treated him like #### and didnt teach him notthing.And his 2nd trainer was a little better but didnt follow some rules.He made him drive between 12am-6am,werner saids they dont want trainees to drive between 12am-6am.And there few other things.He works somewhere else now and is happy where he's at.He did stated that after he's training,he sat home for 3 weeks becouse the couldnt get him a truck,they clam.He did otr for 6 months and rarly got home on he's request dates.After 6 months he left.I told him about this site,so maybe he will join and posted some stuff.

yeah i am gonna say go with plan b. if they still rolling drivers in for orientation and then letting them go 8 weeks of training and they know that theres no positions somethings wrong within the company.

Please whatever you do LISTEN TO THIS FORUM FOR THE SAKE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY AND GOOD......The stories on this forum are not lies or falsehoods I can promise you this. If I had listened to the more seasoned veterans on here to begin with I would not have wasted 3-4 days of my life. Yes you are told .31-.32 cpm but only given .26 and if you are one of those poor guys out west in a regional you go on a sliding scale of .21cpm, right now there are trucks available and yes there are runs but doesnt mean that one of the 2 orientation classes totaling 60 or more per terminal per week arent going to get them before you. They treat you like a 5th class citizen during orientation and show little remorse the staff around the office act like you are the plague, the nicest people I met was the doctor and nurse who came in for the medical part of it. Werner may have been one of my only chances to get my foot back into the industry but if that is the treatment that you must endure for it then absolutly not. I will try to find a mom and pop company who will take pity on me and let me run for them if they arent all out of business already and I swear on this day if I drive again it will never be for anyone but either myself or a company with fewer then 200 or 100 trucks because at least then you are still a person not just a number. Only problem is I have no clue how to look these companies up but guess I will figure it out, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

actually contrary to what some drivers who have come on this board and posted even the teams are stuck doing the split/swap loads where they go 200-500 max miles take the load from a guy or grab it at a drop yard and then deliver it. One of their drivers was telling me he was owner operator for 20 years and ran outlaw and now he has a nice truck with them as a company driver and drops and hooks to trailers 20 times a day and runs 300 miles max from his home terminal and HE IS NOT A LOCAL GUY. isnt there something wrong with that equation

Best thing to do is look in your local phone book and start calling numbers.Just ask them if they are looking for any help.Thats what I did,didnt help much becouse there no jobs here in florida,but I did find a few that was looking for help.Good luck. -
Update Time.
I've been home for about a week and a half now and I've been in contact with four different departments trying and get myself qualified for a truck and on the road with one.
I've come to the conclusion that my SDM is completely useless. After I finished training, she told me there was nothing available in 48, regional, or dedicated. Turns out that was ########. She sent me home without ever setting me up to complete graduation (a series of computer tests and paperwork, etc). It appears as if she just does not want to do her job and get me on a #### truck. I've called over and over in the past week and she keeps telling me to contact a different department, in which they all have been telling me to contact her.
If I continue to pursue this, I probably could get her to do her #### job and get me set up to complete graduation and get a truck, but at this point I'm just not so sure I want to bother sticking with Werner.
My frustration combined with all of the horrible things I've been hearing about them lately has got me wanting to go somewhere else. Only problem is that I'm still 21 years old with little experience, so there are only so many companies that will hire me, most of which are the giant low paying "Stay away from them!" companies I've been hearing about. Most decent companies have a minimum age requirement of 22, 23, or 25 years old (insurance requirements). Go figure.
It's really a pain in the ### too because I'm a very good driver. I'm not the type to speak highly of myself because I don't want to risk sounding arrogant, but god #### I am a good driver. It's confidence. The trainer I was with for seven weeks has been training for twelve years, and this is what he wrote on my progress report:
"Eric is an aluminus of Luzerne County Community College Professional Truck Driving Program in Nanticoke, PA. I suggest we make every effort to recruit more students from this school. Eric himself is a 'natural'. In twelve years of training I've never had a student who brought more skill and knowledge to this company."
I love reading it, but at the same time it's frustrating because I know it's true, yet getting into a decent company with my age and my limited time behind the wheel is a pain in the ###.
Right now I'm thinking I might take a little more time to relax and try go get my thoughts together to decide what I'm going to do. It's either going to be Werner, another giant low paying company like it, or if possible, a local daycab position.
I'd like to know what you all think.
