Keeping CDL

I'm also glad I kept it. When I bought my toy (see signature) this summer, the CDL sure came in handy -- even if I'm only building a show truck with it and not hauling freight.

I've been keeping my CDL renewed since 1997, although I haven't been employed as a professional driver since 2000. I simply go to an urgent care clinic and get a DOT physical every two years; the cost is usually around $75-$100.

Compare that to my driver license renewal, which is now $105 a pop (CDL + motorcycle + three endorsements) and required EVERY year so they can verify my immigration documents, and the DOT physical actually becomes the lesser expense.

Besides, I'm bad about going to the doctor, so I guess a physical every two years helps me make sure there's nothing major wrong with me.

If you look around sometimes you can find a clinic or chiropractor that does them for about 40 bucks.
