I've got orientation this month with KLLM and they sound like a good company but the recruiter is vague about the physical.
If anyone knows anybody or has any "skinny" on what the physical is about, I would appreciate it.:biggrin_25510:

A lot of companies have you take a physical with their doctor or clinic just to be sure. Also they want a fresh drug test etc to cover themselves; its usually driven by their insurance company. The company usually pays for it and if they don't you MAY want to rethink the company.

I'm not worried about the drug test or alcohol for that matter. I'm 56 years old and I take no meds for anything...don't even need Viagra, however, I would have a problem with accessive excercisee or picking up a 75 lb. box several times and walking 53 ft. with it. Based on your reply, it sounds like you don't know specifically what KLLM does. Your response sounds very generic. So, if you know specifically what goes on with the physical (at KLLM) or if you know someone who does, I would appreciate that input. Thanks again for your response.

They are going to start out by having you fill out a bunch of paperwork, one of which is a medical history form. If you have any current medical problems you will want to have any current info from your personal doctor handy (like his phone & fax#) because they may request medical info from them.

Next they will take your blood pressure, check your weight, & maybe have you go ahead and read the eye chart. You will also need to provide a urine sample which they will check for protein, sugar, blood, etc. They will use the same urine sample that you provide for the drug screen. Then they sit you in a room and you wait on the doctor. He will come in and ask you some questions about your health, listen to your heart, lungs, etc. He will check your nose, ears, throat(say ahhh). They will check your hearing by whispering something a few feet away and asking you to repeat it what they said. They will check your reflexes and of course check you for a hernia. That is the industry standard physical for any company, wherever you go.

Now then, some companies will have what we call a "worksteps" program which will includeseveral stations consisting of: lifting a weighted crate off the floor to a specified height (no more than five feet). This can be done several ways although we recommend that they start out with a relatively light weight and progressively add more weight with each lift over 3-5 lifts. However, some companies ask you to pick up the crate with the total weight already in there. You may be asked to carry that weight a specified distance - usually walking back and forth across the room once will suffice depending on clinic space. There may also be a wooden mock-up of a trailer in which you are asked to simulate climbing in and out of safely. I could go on but some of the other recommended worksteps become hard to explain.

Hopefully someone can tell you specifically whether KLLM participates in the worksteps program as I only wanted to give you an idea of the program itself. The program was designed to filter out anyone who might pose a risk of having a work comp injury while lifting or performing their daily job duties. It's not perfect and most people go through it without much difficulty. It's simply a measure of risk and in the past some companies have continued to hire even though an applicant may not pass all the stations.

I hope the information is helpful & good luck to you.

Basically if you are as you say, your initial question should be-"can i sit for extended periods after which I can climb in and out of the truck and not have a circulation problem?" or "will i have a circulation problem as i sit for an extended amount of time?". Sitting for an extended time you will do.
I have known many over the years that developed circulation problems or went into trucking not knowing they did.
    good luck.

kllm in atlanta did not make us do the whole "stress test" thing no boxes or walking. just vision, hearing, reflexes, listen to your heart and breathing, blood pressure, and the hernia check just a simple old fashion physical but that was about a year ago dont guess they have changed

My last physical was at a clinic in Bakersfield, CA the doc was a chick about 23 or so maybe a practioner or a nurse, but none the less really good lookin blonde. All of which kind made the hernia check a little different, or uncomfortable. But a improvement from the hundu guy for sure.
