I used to be based out of Jurupa Valley. I dealt with LA area traffic often. If you can get to the shipper or receiver during dark hours and take a 10 that's the best use of your clock on ELD's and for sanity.
You should check for hidey hole parking near the customer. I have been ticketed while parked.
If you get stuck in bad freeway traffic, plan on getting familiar with the concept of using Lo gear for extended stretches of time. Certain interchanges create miles long backups when six lanes merge to two lanes.
Use Google Maps or Waze for current traffic information at all times. One or two accidents ahead and you can sit for hours.
My favorite time to exit LA was just after midnight. Get well clear of the cluster truck and be in the high desert at sunrise, heading east on I-40.Dave_in_AZ and fargonaz Thank this. -
If I have 3 million miles driving a truck, probably 1 million of them are driving in L.A. traffic. (well maybe 200,000) but the day of the week plays into it. (Mondays the worst for morning rush-hour) Friday the worst for PM rush hour. I will say this ...L.A. drivers are pretty #### good, the problem is accidents. Just one will mess things up for sure. A great thing about L.A. freeways are there are choices. Listen to am 1070 radio, find out which freeways are messed up and avoid them. (60 Vs. I-10) for instance. Or 605 Vs. the 405 or the 710. Choices ! Trucks OK on any L.A. frw except 110 Pasadena between Downtown and Pasadena. Have fun ! ! !

I use sigalert.com . I live in LA . sometimes in the morning instead of taking I-5 south it's better to take I-210 east and CA-2 south.
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Crossing the gw one time, took two hours to crawl 18 miles. That was fuuuuun! I went the long way around after that mistake.
