In your experience what are some acceptable guidelines for late fees on a load? We had a load deliver 4 days late and they are trying to charge us 50% late fee which comes out to $1400... It was a dry load.

Why was it late?
Did you call broker, receiver or shipper as soon as it was determined it would be late?
What does the rate con say about that?
You will need to review your contract to determine if they can charge anything and what the maximum could be. Then you need to try and negotiate the charges.
The amount they want has nothing to do with it.p608, Suspect Zero, not4hire and 6 others Thank this. -
Four days is hella late. Why so late?
thelushlarry and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
Late fees suck. They charge for 30 minutes late sometimes. Also they charge you for being early even whether you are loading or delivering. They will even charge for pallets. I think charging fees for arrival should be outlawed, yet government does not care. Just my 2 pence.

You made an agreement. Do what you said you would do.
“But Six, the truck broke down, there was a family emergency, driver got sick...etc”
Irrelevant. Live up to your end of the agreement. Make them live up to theirs.Dale thompson, FlaSwampRat, Concorde and 1 other person Thank this. -
