Personally when I'm supposed to count and they don't let me I write shipper load and count on the bills then it covers my rear, but at the same time some shippers won't allow that so I get in the truck take the carbon out of your log book and write it in anyway

I've personally had receivers refuse to sign bills that stated "Seal Intact". When they watched me break it, and took it from me afterwards to confirm the seal number.
One even went as far as trying to refuse an entire pallet of beer from another driver, that his lift operator had dumped in the trailer, breaking half the bottles.

Yeah, does'nt make any sense, you can't be on the dock while unloading, but any claim, they try and balme the driver, Just don't get it.

The funny part is the stereotype that's put on truckers, the 350# guys that hasn't showered since he left home in January, sweatpants, slippers, and pink floyd t-shirt, with sausage gravy spilled on it, I personally wear clean jeans actual shoes with laces and a polo shirt minus any stains, comb my hair and shower w/soap at least once a day, Now I've gone to load or unload walked in and they say can I help you sir, I'll say yes I'm here to pick up this that or the other and they stare at me with the stupid look and then say YOU are a truck driver, and I look right back at 'em with the same stupid look and say YES.... and #### proud to be one, now load the #### truck I gotta go!! The point is being an O/O or L/O you are a business owner, try to act like one and you'd be amazed how much different you are treated
As far as the "dock" thing goes Larry the forklift driver wrecks stuff everyday and gets in trouble so he's much more likely to blame a truck driver than be a man and admit he screwed up, god for bid he loses his $9 hr job working in a freezer playing god with every load that comes in

I'm not sure if I understand. You mean you just write the words "shipper load and count" on the bill? I should do this.

Many shippers won't allow it, so be careful. But that's what he meant. Most guys just write SLC on the bills.
I won't sign a bill that says Driver count, if I didn't count it.
But I will do a pallet count, and mark it as X number of pallets loaded.pbrstreetgang Thanks this. -
Thanks. Oh yeah, as far as the pallets go ... I've never had to give a second thought to pallets before, so I'm kind of unclear on this. In the past with Swift dry vans, if people loaded the stuff on pallets, the pallets would be removed with the load when it was unloaded. This is different with reefers?

Yes and no.
It seems that some grocery warehouses run some of the biggest scams in the industry. Through the use of lumpers and pallet services.
They want their product on pallets, but you have to BUY the pallets. Then the receiver doesn't want the pallets, and sticks them back on your truck. And you have to find a place to get rid of them.
Most companies provide them, and the shipper takes them. But grocery warehouses (reefers) are the worst for jacking you up.
My original comment was directed at load count though. IE: I received an unknown amount of product, placed on X number of pallets.pbrstreetgang Thanks this. -
