haven't looked at the websight. but the contract is NOT like a lease contract. it's an actual purchase.
there are puchase prices but no set payments or anything like that. not like a typical 3 year agreement or bank loan or anything.
only contract with a payment amount is the trailer rental agreement.
course, if you don't make it through the program. then i guess all you did was lease and you got nothing out of the deal.

i just followed on his statement.
I am looking for information about the various lease purchase programs out there. I'm preparing to lease a truck with a company and make the next step in my career. I don't have this option with Maverick because they don't offer it for the refrigerated division, mainly because it's still small and they can't guarantee enough income for a lease operator.
doesn't give any details to leasing either. $300 truck payment. nothing about the rest of the expenses.

He said they didn't offer it for the reefer division.They have had it on the flatbed side for several years.

Yeah, and the flatbedders make very good money at it. But the reefer division is still growing. They said they tried it last year with two drivers and they just couldn't make it.
I'll definitely look into SRT, I see them all the time at the same customers I deliver to. Does anyone know if they will finance the balloon payment? I've looked into Celadon, and they have the same kind of setup but they will finance the balloon payment for you at the end of the lease.
That Sammons company appears to be flatbed... Unless I misread it.
John Christner Trucking is another one that's on my radar, their program seems to be very similar to Celadon's. I definitely like the truck payments that are based on mileage, so if I want to take a week off it won't break the bank.
As for fitting the bill, I believe I can make it work. I have always been passionate about owning my own business, and I am one of those crazy guys that really enjoys crunching numbers. I used to spend hours when I was younger playing whatever advanced business simulation games I could get my hands on. Nothing more fun, challenging, and stressful than trying to figure out how to adjust certain aspects of the business to reduce costs and produce a profit.

Sammons is flatbed/heavy haul. I doubt SRT would finance the balloon payment, with the lower weekly/monthly payments then some places as long as you don't have any major breakdowns or anything you should be able to have well more than the balloon payment saved up between your maintenance account and maybe a separate escrow account just for additional funds towards the balloon payment

My preliminary plan is to pay myself a salary of $800 per week, then put the rest in a business bank account and just let it grow.skootertrashr6 Thanks this. -
I can only speak to JCT program as that is the one I'm familiar with. All miles paid plus fsc, all permits,scales,tolls,lumpers paid. Pre pass,pike pass and Ez pass provided for you. Loaner trucks available to you if your truck is down for an extended period. If your maintenance account goes negative your per mile maintenance deduction gets bumped up .03 per mile until you are back in the positive. Compared to many companies that will hold all earnings until you are paid up. In the 6 years I have been here I know of no one getting starved just prior to paying off their lease. And in fact know of over a dozen that have done so.
now having said all of that here is what many fail to recognize. While you are a contractor, you are part of a team. As an independent you don't care about any load but the one you contract to pull, here not every load will be ideal, but are needed to be covered. If you come to JCT the tools are there from the equipment, miles, office staff, and if desired a driver mentor like myself, to be successful. A driver mentor is many different things to different people. Primarily we are are here to share how we stay successful but even more than that we help ease the transition by giving you someone to go to for advice and questions.
Bottom line no one company or program is perfect for everybody. To make any business be successful takes a level of dedication well beyond just doing ones job. This one has worked out wonderfully for me. And while everyday has not been perfect, I have never regretted coming here. Nor do I have any plans to leave. That's one thing I think a lot of guys out here forget: that trucking is still a customer service industry, like most everything else.
The way I see it, if I'm leasing from a company, then that company is my ONLY customer. And they're obviously a good one, since they're keeping me in business. So, if my customer tells me one day that they need help with a load where I might only break even, I'm going to be willing to help, because they're feeding me and paying my bills, it wouldn't hurt to help them out too.
One thing I am keeping an eye on when looking at companies is if they visit certain areas. I have family and friends in Lubbock, TX and near Shreveport, LA, and getting through these areas every once in awhile might be a deciding factor between two companies that are otherwise tied in the running.
Celadon and JCT are definitely topping the list. Celadon has a terminal in Dallas, so I'd have the option of dropping my trailer there and bobtailing home, making parking infinitely easier. However, JCT has a much larger selection of truck models to choose from, while Celadon sticks with mainly Prostars.
Can you JCT guys tell me if they get through Lubbock and LA regularly, and if they have anywhere to drop a trailer around DFW? I know I could drop it at the terminal in Tulsa and bobtail to DFW, but that's a little far to deadhead both ways after hometime. -
We have a yard in fort with so dropping there is not difficult. We are in and out of Amarillo and Lubbock all the time so that solves that location. I have never delivered in Shreveport but I am through there regularly
