    Hello,
I have been trying to find the lightest used 48' x 102" reefer trailer. I have called trailer dealers, manufacturers and owners to find the tare weight of their trailers, no help. Do any Owner Operator or Drivers know or remember the tare weight (empty weight) of their reefer trailers.

    Thanks

Weight depends on lots of things, the greatest amount of weight can be saved by going from dual tires on steel wheels to wide base single tires on aluminum wheels. I'm not sure
about a spread axle versus a sliding tandem.

Tare weight was around 15,000 lbs with a unit, plus fuel, the 53 foot trailers are not much heavier, generally the old 48 footers were heavier than newer 53 footers, also if you are hauling metal products, the heavier floors will stand up better.

Its hard to remember all of the combinations, air ride versus springs, or mini air ride,(bags added to springs, the heaviest setup). The lightest trailer I remember pulling was a 53 foot Wabash with painted aluminum clad doors. The company I'm with now buys Utility 3000R trailers, they have some Great Dane. One of the heavier trailers I have pulled recently was a 48 with steel springs. I can't recall the make of that trailer, I just hope I never have to pull it again.

I know the spread axle do weigh more, than the sliding tandems. My tractor weighs about 20750 lbs (ICT SLEEPER), so you can see I need a light trailer.

Is what you are hauling going to work out with a 48, I was told by many people that a 48 is not what they want. I pulled a 48 foot rail trailer on a spread, it was lighter than that old 48 on springs, the box on a rail trailer is heavier. It had a Carrier unit, not a TK so that may have saved some weight.

I am looking for an air ride, 48' 102" . It is sad, I asked dealers the empty weight if they would have said a 53' was lighter I probably would have looked into a 53'.
