Recently purchased a reefer and a lowboy at auction. They are both near one another. Would it possible to load the reefer on the lowboy or would I be to tall going down the road. Need to get from GA to CO.
reefer by itself is 13'4 - 13'6 depending on 5th wheel height. Add 18" for the trailer you're loading it on....
I wouldn't try it, seems like a good way to lose a trailer roof. You'd end up at nearly 16 foot tall, not to mention getting a 53 foot reefer in the well of a lowboy could be interesting.
Take the wheels off. The reefer, not the lowboy... in case there is any confusion. Or maybe just let the air out, block it, yadda, yadda, yadda... Assuming the lowboy is big enough to handle the reefer, otherwise find a power-only tractor as suggested, find a one-way load, etc. Might have to remove the landing gear too. If there's a will, there's a way. Just whichever makes the most sense.
Most lowboys with an 18inch deck height would probably be 15ft high loaded. It depends on where the from and to locations are. Ga and Tn and SC no problems permitting that high. But I’m sure it’d be cheaper having power only companies haul them.....
