Just got back on one heck of a trip! Roads closed two times I-80/I-84 sat two times. As I was watching trucks go by me in truck stop in Sinclar,Wy, I could not belive the trls with "seals" on them but no LOCKS. Drivers you are just asking for Trouble and I mean alot of headache if someone gets in. My Co hands out Real heavy duty locks and I use it everytime under a load!! If someone gets into my trl at least when "Cops" get call they will see a lock that was cut not a little piece of plastic. And the Hrs of explaning to Safety Dept on why you did not lock it up. And you can just guess, The Co is wondering If you had anything to do with break-in!!! LOCK YOUR TRAILOR!!

LOCK it even when empty. The reasons why I was told are many.
an unlocked trailer is an invitation to a bum to take up residence
crooks could use your unlocked trailer as a place to store their stolen goods and cause you no end of headache when/if the cops find it
last but not least a terrorist could throw any kind of bomb, dirty bomb or bio bomb in your trailer and guess who will get stuck with that major headache? -
Boardman even empty!! Great tip its so easy to do. To avoid the Headaches you can have if something happens.
-
i think a headache is the least of the problems at this point

Lock's? Not a bad idea. They help to keep a person out of your trailer or cab.A pitbull might be a better idea.He proably won't be very happy sleeping in the trailer though.Lock's are fine to keep a petty thief away, but if you get someone that does this for a living you won't have much luck keeping them from what they want.I drove in the NYC metro area for many years.I have had people hanging on the back of my trailer trying to break in,while I was driving and in traffic.I have had people come up to the cab.For the most part I have never been hijacked nor lost freight.I did have some friends that gave up their trucks because a weapon was involved. They gave the freight and their truck up,but they went home to the wife and kids.Lock's are just band-aids.Learn where to park your rig and ask the local driver's where it's safe in the area. The company safety man might go home, you might not.Tractor, trailer and freight, don't worry about it.These companies have insurance to cover a loss.Good luck.Hope this helps.

like others mentioned... locks really only stop the honest and undetermined. anyone who wants in will still get in.
Locks can be cut or picked easily enough. Sure there are locks that are harder to cut, and there are locks that are hard or impossible to pick. You spend big dollars to get both though.
It's certainly better than nothing or a plastic seal... it will deter the thieves who are merely looking for a free lunch with no effort on their part.
