Yes you still have the 14 hour window to use the 11 hours available. You are done driving when you hit the 70 limit, but that does not mean you can not still work, just can't drive.

You only have 11 hours left in your 70. Then yes when you hit your 70 you have to stop. If you drove 5 or 11. This includes lines 3 and 4.
The way I understand your question is you have 11 hours, from the time you start your day. You can use 14 hour day to max out your 70. Using only 11 hours on 3 and 4 total.
I stand corrected.
Good luck.Last edited: Apr 5, 2015

He only has 11 hours available on his 70. Therefore he cannot drive past the 11 hour mark from when he starts work after a 10 hour rest. The 14 hour window is irrelevant. Yes, he can work for as many hours as he wants after the 11 hour mark, but he cannot drive without taking at least 10 hours off AND recapturing some hours at midnight or taking a 34 hour reset.
In your example; starting at 6 AM your driving is done at 5 PM regardless of how many hours you drive.
EDIT: Disregard... I had a brain fart.

Lets add to the confusion, come to Alaska, where one can drive for 15 hours in a 20 hour shift!
not4hire Thanks this. -
No, he can use the full 14 as long as he doesn't use more than 11 hours of line 3 and 4.
Say he starts at 6:00, does a 15 minute PTI, then drives until 11:30 and takes a 30 minute break. At noon he would have 5:45 on the 11; 8 on the 14; 5:30 on the 70; and 8 on the 8. At this point he could drive UP TO 5.5 hours.
Now say his swap trailer doesn't arrive until 14:30. He spends 30 minutes on duty doing the swap, it is now 15:00 and he has 5 hours on his 70. He could legally drive until 20:00. -
And......If you consider the Pre trip, post trip and 30 minute break....then ya got 13 hours in a day......lol!
-
wrong, if he takes a lunch, goes off duty at any time, he has the 14 hour window to accomplish using all of his 70.... the 70 is the limiting factor. with 11 hours available, he could very easy still be driving at 7pm, all depends on the off duty time. He has to stop driving when one of 3 things happen in this scenario, he has used all of his available 70 hours, between driving and on duty, He has used up the 11 hours driving, or he reaches the 14 hour mark due to 3 hours or more of off duty time.

In my book, I'm allowed by ME to drive 20 hours!!!
-
Yes, you're right. He has 11 hours on line 3 or 4 available when he starts the day. He could stretch that out for the full 14 hours if he wants. To do so would require 3 hours of lines 1 or 2.Last edited: Apr 6, 2015
