As far as I know, the locations on the logbook are only used to determine if the mileages and driving times match up. As long as they can tell where you stopped before and after each driving period they aren't really concerned with which method you use. Just be as accurate as you can. As for logging EVERY status change, as Green Machine said, if I do a pre/post trip or an unload/load, etc, I just annotate the first change with the activities and location. It doesn't make much sense to log a post trip, then 15 minutes later flag the off-duty as you go to the bathroom, then flag again 15 minutes later as you change to driving.
