72 hours is a bit extreme.

Once I was put OOS for no log book, told DOT I did not feel safe sitting there for 10 hours, he reluctantly escorted me to nearest place that had food and water.

in ONTARIO CANADA here is the ruling not sure about ALBERTA where the OP should be and he supposedly FALSIFIED his log

Drivers may be placed out of service for 10 consecutive hours for violation of the daily driving and on-duty rules.

If a driver fails to comply with the off-duty time requirements, they may be placed out of service for the number of hours needed to correct the failure.

Drivers may be placed out of service for 72 consecutive hours for any of the following violations:

    1. Driver is unable or refuses to produce his/her daily log.
    2. There is evidence that the driver completed more than one daily log for the day, entered inaccurate information or falsified the daily log.
    3. Driver mutilates or defaces a daily log or supporting documents in such a way that it cannot be determined whether the driver has followed the driving time and off-duty requirements.

10 hrs was all I got for falsification. Slept for maybe 5 hours and played video games for the rest.

How can you run down the road and not have food or drinks in the truck? Forgive me if that sounds harsh,.. but I thought everyone stocked up on groceries and supplies?

I stop at Walmart at least once a week to stock up on Dinty Moore beef stew, chicken noodle soup, Hormel Chili, Chef Boy R De Spaghetti, ravioli and lasagna, lunch meat, cheese, sliced sweet pickles, mayonnaise, mustard, peanut butter and jelly, Beef sticks, trail mix, I always have at least 2 bags of apples, I like fresh pineapple, watermelon and what ever fruit is in season, pork chops or steak if I feel like cooking on the grill. Not so much in cold weather. I get the pancake batter in the jug, just pour it in the pan. I always have milk and fruity pebbles. I always have at least 2 gals water (Sometimes you cant always get a shower,.. but at least I can wash my hair and use baby wipes), a case of bottled water and at least 2 - 3 cases of soda and gatorade. Trash bags, baby wipes, paper towels, disposable plates and bowels, forks, spoons and knives.

I know thats a bit excessive for some folks. But thats my average stock here in the truck. If something happens, I wont go hungry or thirsty.

I never carry food. Just water. But if I ran up north where there was a possibility of getting snowed in then I would.

They must take you to the nearest safe haven! Likely depends on the mood of the OFFICER and ATTITUDE of the driver
