Can anyone give good or bad advice on working with Marten Transport or the same with Design Trucking (out of Dallas)? Home time, pay or past personal experience to help me make my decision. I live in Alabama. Thank you.
Looking at Marten vs. Design.

I worked with Marten for 3 months. Automatic Detention pay is a lie. You will be at customers for a long time. They will only give you the hrs that you had left on your clock. Not the whole time you spent there. There terminals are a joke. Except the new Laredo terminal and Desoto. They are a regional company lots of 300 mile runs. Mechanics at terminals are super slow and never fix the issue ever. Dispatch doesn't care about drivers. My APU broke and it was 85 out. Truck would not idle at all levels. They refused to give me hotel. Now if that reefer goes out they are breaking there back to get it fixed. Hopefully this can help.. This was just my experience there others may be different.
Edit: Trailer washouts come out of your pocket up front they will reimburse you though. They have the in cab scanners but they also abuse it and want you to scan it in at the shipper and when delivered . they also pay dispatch miles not practical .Last edited: Mar 4, 2014

I don't know about this company but looked good for me at the present. Going to orientation tomorrow. Company is flying me there. FLIGHT WAS Canceled today due to weather in DALLAS>

teqntexas Thanks this. -
Thank you, Marten is my back up right now. Worked for them a long time ago but I hear it has changed.

Weather in Dallas??? I'm here right now it's 47 and sunny lol
Edit: Also they pay Sliding scale I believe it's 37 to 42cpm. Also, Marten pays per diem forced not optional if you leave the company in three months or less you will have to pay back the cost of hotel while in orientation. -
I worked for these guys like 3 weeks... I left cause it got old fast being sent to Laredo and sitting (wasting) 2 days in the terminal waiting on a load to come back out.. But I'm glad they got a new terminal there cause the one I sat in was a gravel dump with a single wide trailer..It's all good for me now, they just don't respect there drivers is all...
EtaN Thanks this. -
Don't work for Marten. The APU is the only good thing about the company. They will hire you for SE region and you'll spend the majority of your time in NE cities, All for SE rates. That is if you are rolling at all. Scratch their truck and you are looking at a preventable on your record. They have some twisted points system that will get you fired for very little. Id avoid them at all costs.

I use to work for Marten Transport, The only thing I can tell is " If U go to work for Marten , U will regret the day you ever work for them!!!!!" I know I do!!!! If you leave them to go somewhere else, Marten will defame your DAC, and give you a badf record....
