I live in central Iowa and I'm looking for better work than what I have now. I have 7 years experience in operations management, 19 years trucking experience, several of those years as an O/O, clean MVR, no accidents, never tested positive on a drug test, no criminal record, current X endorsement, experience with flatbed, tanker, step deck, intermodal, dump truck, van, reefer & covered wagon. Got out of the truck for 7 years to pursue a career in operations management. Got back in the truck 4 months ago. Even though I have a lot of experience and a clean record, not many companies are willing to hire with less than a year of recent experience. Any suggestions?

I went through this when I got back into trucking after a 15 yr hiatus.

Reality is that insurance dictates all,... insurance holds all the cards.

I had to suck it up for 12 months with an incredibly awful company. Once I had what I needed to qualify for the next company I wanted to work for I beat feet.

Being that I got into trucking before CDL and before driver testing etc etc. I was under an initial shock at how much trucking had changed in 15 yrs. Gone were the days of going out for a test drive and shaking hands with the owner and mutual respect from both parties.

My goal was to work my way to O/O. I never deviated from that. It just took me a little longer and a few more hoops to hop through before I could get to where I wanted to be.

Good news is that I am proof that it is possible. Bad news is that your going to pay your dues all over again and suck it up step by step until you reach your designated goal.

W.W. Transport is headquartered in Iowa and might give you a chance. One driver posted on here he doesn't have any problem making average $1500 weekly hauling dry bulk flour in tanker.
