What guy wouldn't want a "BJ" amp??? :p

Seriously, preamps are pretty much useless on CB. They are useful only if the noise floor is lower than the sensitivity of the receiver, which rarely happens below 50 MHz or so.

    Ditto.

A pre amp on a CB just introduces noise and makes it harder to hear. The only true way of "hearing better" is a bigger antenna at a higher elevation. Sadly on semis you're usually limited in height. I mean it's hard to run a 102 whip on a semi but they'll allow your radio to hear far more than the typical 4 foot CB antenna (for semis) will.

As for where to buy an amp with a pre amp....well eBay has them, that is if the eBay police don't find them/pull them first....because eBay prohibits the sale of illegal items. An amp that is designed for CB use falls into that category.

You can also find them on craigslist....if the flaggots don't flag them down first. Or...if you happen to know where there's any hamfests in your area, often you'll see them there....though the seller may ask you for your ham license first...sometimes they won't.
