I am about to start with JB Hunt a Lease I think I have some idea of the pitfalls of a lease but any suggestions that can put me on the right road I know I have to get the miles and on this deal I am getting a 2007 Freightliner at $260 a week pay off in 36 months then I plan on getting my own truck but for now I will be working of a JB Hunt load board so will be able to pick my loads I have been on the road for 4 years working for the Government with an average of 2800 miles a week so any ideas spring them on me. Thanks

Hay I have read all the postings for not doing a lease but I want own my own truck down the road and I see this as a chance to do that I know that it may be a bad move and the income less after all the payments to the company will be a lot less than if I owned my own truck but got to start somewhere. I have a lease set up with JB Hunt and will choose my loads from their load board which allows me my choice on the amount of loads and miles I can do I have 4 years OTR experience with an average of 2800 to 3200 miles a week with the company I was with, so any real advice that can help me keep my head above water and make a little money with this deal.

those leases no matter who they are with usually do not work ,2007 model truck have a lot did I say a lot of engine trouble mostly emissions related. That is about 40500 dollarsjust in lease payments you had better pray about this so called deal

With JB Hunt, you may have to focus more on load pay, then mileage. I don't see JB Hunt has having lot's of longer loads to help yield 3,000 MPW consistently. It's hard to run 3,000 MPW, 450 miles at a time.

Thanks I will be working in the dark for awaile trying to get a handle on it and I know I will not be able to get it right from the get go but will learn and you are right at those miles it will be but try and get what I can any suggestions on JB Hunt Thanks.

Also, I've heard from more than a few connected sources that the reason JB Hunt has much less longer freight than they did "back in the day" is they have discarded all of the crap shippers, and have focused on the better paying shippers with higher demands, moving the shorter, high-dollar freight, and expanding their contract hauling div. If JB is hauling it, it ain't being hauled on the cheap. So I suspect the avg paid mile at JB is pretty good if the o-o contract is written fairly.

You have already done the lease deal if I am reading this right and now you want advice ?
You also state that you know that everyone says to stay away from a lease and you still went ahead and did it anyway and NOW you want advice ?
You state that you will be working in the dark trying to get a handle on it and NOW you ask for advice?
My advice for you is to hang on and hope you don"t lose your ### while you work in the dark getting a handle on it !
I would also suggest that in the future you ask before you leap.
As for having to start SOMEWHERE you don't have to start off by ............. OK this where I just shake my head and shut up because I am getting to old to keep trying to save newbies from themselves.
I will just say that I honestly hope you do not become just another victim of the if I lease a truck I can do what I want to and not be told what to do by my mean old dispatcher.
Just remember no matter what they might tell you it is NOT your truck ! You are not an owner operator! Just try to do what you want to and with that truck and you will find out real fast that you are just paying the bills on their truck !
That is the true difference between a L/O and a real OWNER!
Oh ya and as for the advice on JB Hunt don't trust them as far as you can throw them always double check everything !!! -
Wow thanks I will keep a lock on my back side and yes you are probably right but believe me I will do all I can to work this deal out for myself and hope I can be smart enough not to become a victim if that is a chance I try and do everything I can do to make sure that I doing right I like what I do and like hard work and not afraid to step into the dark side of trucking and I hope by saying that there will be a light at the end of the tunnel for me Thanks

I hope you havea good business plan and you know your cost per mile for that truck. Also do you have a nice chunk of money set a side for maintainace and break downs? Those are the issues that break most lease operators pretty quickly. Don't forget the truck payments do not take time off. You will be paying even if you do not run. Make sure you look into that careful and do your home work.
