On a more serious note. I wonder what it costs to overhaul an engine over there because you see a lot of videos like this of carefree engine abuse “drive it like you stole it” type driving. Must be cheap?

Only idiots use a jake when shifting. And using a jake on flat ground or in towns is also a sure sign of a idiot.

Jake shifting went out with the two stroke Jimmy's.
Could be just a worn retainer pin. Easy fix either way.mustang190 Thanks this. -
sounds like a guy who moved from a day cab to a cabover...from a sports car crisp shift to the stick sits in a tub of butter....

The old first generation KW K100 cabovers shifter stick was removable because it was also the cab jack handle. It would pull out of the remote shift tower on the twin stick trucks.

I about fell out of the seat laughing. The only time I shift with the jake is getting going up a steep hill on the low side, usually just low to 1st maybe 2nd gear. 1st stage, not full on and you better not miss the gearstillwurkin Thanks this.

I am no driver by any means, but I can hang and drive them all with best of them. Backing trailers into a blind shop bay was my specialty. Nowadays 1/2 drivers on the road say " you want me to back up where?" I dont do reverse.......where can I turn around?
I always mis shift with the jakes on in manual mode, gets me every dam time and i realize forgot to flip the switch off. But, then again every time I get into a truck its a different model with and different engine/trans combination.Brettj3876, stillwurkin, kemosabi49 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Back in the day of the Mack "Maxidyne" engine with a 5 speed transmission alot of drivers mastered the art of shifting with the engine brake. The 5 speeds were not a quick shifting transmission. There used to be a comment " you can take a bite of your sandwich between shifts". Mack IMO actually was the first to have a low rpm-high torque engine. A mechanic told me that constant engine brake usage between gears caused extra wear on thrust washers . Don't know that to be factual or just his opinion.Brettj3876 and Goodysnap Thank this.

The 1st gen E-7 drops off very slow like the old maxidyne. If I'm on a hill taking off and wind it up to 2100 it'll be 1200-13 before it catches. Took a while to get used to but i like how they shiftstillwurkin Thanks this.
