I am looking into buying a truck.. my question is i found a 2005 Mack Vision with 600K it has a E7 460 mack, 13 speed 72"bunk, fridge, and APU for $17,900...it is a clean truck with fairley new virgin rubber what am i missing why does this sound like the deal of the century...why woulnt any one buy this truck...it looks to be cheaper than a freightshaker...are their problems with Macks????any one know what they get for fuel milage....any advise would be great and thanks

I am not an expert on Mack's but i can say that they are tough trucks. My dad had an old MH and R model and they never gave him any problems. Both had Mack motors. However, they are not really designed for road work, and they are better suited for local/regional work and sever duty. but if its a good and solid truck, then why not. All trucks can do the job. They are also pretty good on fuel, my dad easily got six to six and a half almost thirty years ago, so except similar numbers, but closer to 6.5, and even 7 dependent upon how you drive and what you haul.

i will probbily stay on the east coast Boston to ohio and as far south as maby the carolinas...i am looking at land star..i just dont want to make a mistake on my first truck...but i have driven a mack 613 for about 6 months and it was alrite 350 hp 9 speed not a race truck and not a hillclimber either but i was getting 6.9-7.3 that was great the truck i saw has a 460 and a 13 speed that should be better...i was just wondering why we don't see more macks on the road....

the issue with that truck is the mack motor, and finding places to work on it. not that there bad motors its just parts availability and mechanics to work on them. esp if its a gold bulldog truck. (ALL MACK PARTS)

The reason that we don't see many Macks is what ezrider said, there aren't as many places to go work on them. Apart from that they are good trucks and will get the job done. I remember when my dad and other old time drivers said that Macks were good trucks, and lots of them stayed on the east coast. Personally, if its a solid truck and will get the job done, than the truck make doesn't really matter. Just go with your gut. That and Macks are built well and can take a beating. If you're going to be running those lanes, it sounds like a pretty good choice. You will be running in an area with poor load rates, except for Ohio and Carolina. Coming out of Boston, you'll lose money almost every time, so it's a good idea to buy an inexpensive truck. And yes, I'm with LandStar, so I do know what I'm talking about. If you can try to remain in the midwest, say from Ohio to Ill to Ky and such, you'll do pretty good. Also, if you haven't applied yet, best to do it soon. It generally takes 4 to 8 weeks to get hired on. They have a really lousy company doing their qualifications, and it takes forever. Good luck . running the east coast from ohio to mass and down to the Carolinas finding a mack dealer will not be a problem. the 05 460 motor was not a bad motor just had the same problems as the other manufactures and that was the egr system.

So why are they so cheep ????you can find them cheaper than freightliners and volvos

because a vision is just a basic truck. they didn't put all the extra frills and bells and whistles in them. even brand new they are cheaper. I drove macks for 6 years started with a 06 vision and finished with a 2011 mack pinnacle axle forward before buying my kw. the vision I drove wasn't a bad truck besides the egr but it rattled a lot the doors didn't seal right. no insulation on the floor so in summertime your feet roasted and in wintertime your feet froze until drivetrain warmed up. but for a basic truck its a good truck.
