I drive a ‘17 Freightliner with the DD-13. After fueling up, I wheeled over to the truck wash where the attendant told me halfway through that I had left the passenger side fuel cap off. I didn’t feel the engine lag or anything on the 30 miles it took to get back to the yard, and I didn’t see any water in the fuel water separator. Should I be worried? I really don’t want to call the company mech and tell him if I don’t have to....

I'd just keep an eye on the water separator and keep my mouth shut.

Just stop at the truck and get some Power Service or Howes that get water out of diesel. They disperse it so I can be burned. I never had truck water separator. Maybe it would still separate the water even with Howes or Power Service

It also normal to get water in tanks in the winter. From warm fuel and Cold tanks water can for inside the tank walls. fuel at truck stop can get water in the tanks. So I would not say anything pour a bottle of the Howes or power Service in the tanks. That what it for to help get water out.

You can get flashing shine it in tanks and see you you can even see water at bottom of the tank. Really it probably not much in tanks or it could have some just from regular fueling and winter cold.

Don’t imagine much water got in other than a few drops.
The filter system on the engine itself has a water separation filter with a water sensor that will give a warning light on the dash. You then have to drain off the water. It has a fitting for that. If you ignore the light it will shut down the engine at some point.
If you have a Davao fuel pro, it will catch most of the water. It also has a drain valve on the bottom.

If the truck made it to the yard without issues in that 30 miles. You're probably safe.

What's the deal with not getting into a good routine for fueling, like a walk around before you get into the cab. Don't be in such a hurry.

Like everyone said run the Howes through.

Buy 2 bottles, pour one in at your next fuel and run the tanks 3/4 empty. Then pour the second one in and run them 3/4 empty. That should just about get the water out completely. Feel free to add a 3rd bottle, and repeat.

Or you can wait until your next top up, pour 1 bottle in each tank and then run it to almost empty then fill it back up.

If you do it that way though and there is a LOT of water it may cause some lag.

You could park the truck for a couple hours to let the fuel settle then shine a flashlight in the tank.
If there's water you'll see it at the bottom of the tank, will be darker looking, just syphon it out with a hose or a real long turkey baster.

What kind of turkeys are you basting? My fuel tanks is at least 1.5 foot from top to bottom!
