You should always have a paper log in your truck for such a time as this one year E-log goes down.
I thought that was standard protocol.

One company in charge of a whole industry of communciations Sir. A million? three million trucks? No electronic data at all.

Assume Qualcomm is gone. They are too flooded with the problem to function. Millions want paper logs right now. Or run in violation.

Companies require this infromation in paper form or called in every day so dispatchers will know who can haul what where and how many hours in trip planning. Companies plural.

JB Hunt, Schninder etc have at LEAST right now about 90000 trucks unable to move anywhere because the QC system is gone as of Midnight Nov 2.

It is perfectly legal to have paper and E- logs... as long as they match EXACTLY.

I haul livestock occasionally, so I have an exemption listed, but the only times I've have not used it was under instructions when it malfunctioned, those several days, I was instructed not to log in and use paper. It was a pain to be prompted constantly but I put a towel over it to muffle it. I keep paper, but not signed unless I'm turning it in inlieu of ELD, for my own use.

The one I mentioned never was an AOBRD, and it's been painfull for many upgrading from that to ELD.

I haven’t cared enough to look, all I know is that one officer in NE told a coworker of mine that you can’t have two logs, and his matched exactly because he was trying out an ELD to see if he wanted a new truck or not. So if it’s one of those things that’s open to officer interpretation I’d say having one or the other could save you some hassle. Or don’t keep your paper log in your door where he can see it when you open it. Lol

I’m looking at this as a good thing. With the new data showing ELDs have not reduced fatal accidents like promised. I hope this eld failure isn’t resolved promptly. Just maybe we can get some traction on getting the eld mandate repealed. I know that probably will never happen, but one could only hope.

Yes, I’m aware you have to run paper when ELD doesn’t work. I’m taking about running both at the same time 24/7. Anyway, that doesn’t matter here. And one company having problems isn’t going to force Congress to do anything about the mandate.

Everyone is required to have a paper log book in truck for is reason. So that not a big deal. Probably just make up you past 7 day they best you can and keep going. The last 7 day could still be in the cloud, just because it not showing on ELD in truck. They probably have them online still. Because they keep logs for like 6 months. It dose suck going back to paper but now you can run old school trucking way if you want. Remember you can never average the speed limit you always log 5 MPH slower. I'm not sure a new driver could figure out how to log the old way because you also need a map not GPS.
