Years ago a friend showed me you can get worms to come to the surface by sticking a pithfork in the ground and hitting the handle repeatedly with the palm of your hand . He told me the vibrations made the worms think it was raining . It seems there is a different reason

 

I used to get worms all the time with my dad, all hours of the night omgosh what fun that was.....back then we took a battery wired to a screwdriver, stuck the screwdriver in the ground and there ya go worms/nightcrawlers all over the place....we even went so far as to put a red plasic shield over the falshlight lens so that we could see but the worms didnt duck back down when the light hit them.......
