Hello, I am a third generation of truck drivers. I am an o/o. I have been driving almost 10 years. My question is....can anyone give me any information concerning maverick reefer division for o/o with total pay, fuel surcharge, if they pay by load % or by the mile, etc..? Any information will be appreciated, thanks...

Hi Bluechief! I am not 100% FOR SURE, but CaptainX3 (Maverick TCD Driver who posts on our threads) may have a slightly better answer for you on this, but I THINK that currently there may not be any IC openings for the TCD (Temp Control Div-Reefer). I know that he had been interested in becoming IC, but I remember him saying that it appeared that Maverick may not be doing IC in TCD, only Flats and Glass. This could be- or it may have recently changed. Here is the Mav IC link from their website: http://www.maverickusa.com/driving-jobs/mav-ic-program
Start there. Call Recruiting Department and ask for MASON. He will steer you the right way and will be very helpful giving you all of the honest answers. I guarantee that. Good luck Man!bluechief Thanks this. -
There's no option for a TCD driver to lease a truck from Maverick, but I don't know if they offer the option for someone who already owns a truck to come in and join.
Your best bet is to call in during the week and ask for Joe Johnson, he heads up the IC division here. He could tell you all of the detailed requirements.bluechief Thanks this. -
thanks for the info. i had heard they were hauling reefer but that may have just been a rumor. i may try and call them when i get the chance. thanks for your help.

Lol it's not a rumor, I'm in TCD (temperature controlled division), but the division is still fairly small. It's not large enough to support an o/o that has a truck payment, but I would think someone with a paid off truck could do really well.
I'd definitely give them a call. Awesome company to work for in my humble opinion

How so? Even if someone has a truck that is paid for, they should be putting money aside (paying them self a truck payment) for replacement of their current truck. It would be foolish to pay a truck off and just blow that extra money every month, then when it comes time to get another truck you have to borrow the money when you could have paid cash for it instead.

That is one of the biggest problems with this industry. Drivers figuring their truck is paid for so they haul freight cheap.
-
What I meant was that Maverick tried leasing to temp controlled drivers last year, and the two drivers couldn't make enough to cover the cost of their leases plus make a living. The division is still too new and too small. So they stopped leasing to TCD drivers until we grow larger.
But, an O/O without a truck payment or lease payment could probably do much better. That's what I meant. -
I have been talking to Maverick. Just out of CDL school, and was leaning toward a Atlantic Coast Regional route. (I am in Ohio) I didn't know they were getting into refer. Is that available in my area?
-
Yes, all of Ohio is in the TCD hiring area. We don't have any regional stuff in TCD though, you'd be out 2 weeks at a time minimum.
