Must have been some vibes going around my head when i turned down an OD Load going to Baltimore. Came home from In instead and dropped the truck off for an exhaust manifold gasket that was leaking, and a few other odds n ends, at the local FL dealer.
Low and behold, number 4 HG had failed, as well as the Ex manifold gasket
I saw some oil on the side of the motor, but no coolant. Being that it has been minus whatever every night where I have been running, I figured the exhaust was slobbering some. Pulled No3 and No4 heads this morning, and No4 had blown the gasket. Checked the liner, and it was right in the middle of the specs, so good there. The coolant was a little low when the motor had cooled down, but I hadn't had it shut off long enough to see if while I have been out.
Went ahead and told them to do all 6 HG's, as well as all the nozzles. Call me paranoid, but it was a crap nozzle that cost me a motor last year, so they can get done too!
Oh well, at least I am at home and have my local guy doing the work while it's too cold outside to do it myself, and not paying motel fee's etc 1000 miles from home!
Happy new year all!

just resurface heads before you install with new gaskets
-
Well, got the rig back, and it certainly seems to be running better.
They replaced all 6 head gaskets and head bolts, checked the liners for dropping (they all measured .010", specs are between .009 and .013 apparently), replaced all 6 nozzles and pass through lines, did a full PM, and checked the truck over from top to bottom. $3200 out the door. Not a bad price I didnt think, especially as the truck was only down for a day or so while I was at home.

I like OM460 for simple OHV design and easy to remove, install heads
-
I agree mate.
I would say 80%-90% of the work is removing turbo, manifold, etc etc etc.
After that it's 4 head bolts and the fuel line!
So $3200 not a bad deal then? Including all new nozzles and a full PM?
Like to keep track of what my local guys are charging is all....
