I have been toying with getting my CDL for years and becoming an OTR driver. My uncle drives for Mayflower and I would go on the road with him from time to time when I was growing up. I have finally decided that going to the same place for work everyday is not for me.
I spoke to the Central recruiter today and I am considering taking there offer. I can not afford driving school right, so I am looking for a company that has there own school.
I have been searching this forum and most of the reviews on here have been good. I know no company is perfect and I do not mind hard work. A lot of the posts on Central are a few years old, so I looking to see if there are any current drivers who can tell me if the recruiter has been even some what honest.
I will be starting out in GA for 4 days then onto Salt Lake City UT for a 1 1/2 weeks. Then on the road with a trainer for 5 weeks. If all goes well I get my own truck. The training pay once you are on the road is 450.00 a week then when you are on your own the pay starts at .28 after 6mo .29 then after another 6mo .30. Is this true?
For all you company drivers how many miles a week do you average currently? How is the paperwork submitted to them for pay?
Like with every other company the dispatchers and trainers can be hit or miss. I would like to hear some current experiences.
How are the heath benefits?
It seams to me that, they are not in your face about leasing a truck. Am I wrong? I do want to become an O/O, but not for at least a year.
He told me they pay for transport and the place to stay. I did not ask if it was a hotel or dorm. It does not really matter, I expert to have more than one person to a room. Just out of curiosity how many do they cram into a room?
I live in New Jersey, but it looks like I'll be getting my CDL in UT, how does that work? I did not ask the recruiter that. I figured I would get a better answer from people who have had to do it. I was also told the only fee is 65.00. Is this true?
They also take out 25.00 from my pay for school. Which will cost 1200.00 if I stay for one year. Is this true?
Thanks for all the help.
