Any thoughts on these 2 companies for a jump off point to a driving career? Also what about driving school vs company sponsored school?

Millis has a good reputation and good equipment, get your training from them.

The Millis guys are always raving about how great of a company it is so that gotta be a good thing. I have heard quite the opposite about US Xpress. That's not to say it's a bad place for sure, it's just the rep they have....no money.

My big problem is being able to afford it. I can get state sponsored schooling at no cost. Then I'm only out 4 weeks of income and quicker to a pay check.

Take no cost schooling then you can go work wherever you want instead of being a slave to a no pay starter company.

You should be able to find a half a day schooling option so you can still work full time & attend school.

The school i went to had 3 classes a day Monday-Friday. Plus on weekends there were an am & a pm class.

The m-f’s were like 7a-12p, 1p-6p, & 6p-11p. Weekend classes had longer hours. I worked as did a lot of folks in school back then.

If you decide on a trucking company school, look at these; all provide meals, lodging, transportation to get to the school.

At Millis you need $100 to reserve a spot in a clas . Then the 1st day of school you pay $400. Then you have 3.5 wks of school unpaid, but lodging, breakfast, and lunch is available/provided during that time.

Once you get on the trainers truck you will start getting paid .43cpm for every mile the truck is dispatched on. You drive, trainer drives, doesnt matter you're getting paid.

    No contest here.....Millis, 100%.
I got ran off from Mills, but I'd still recommend them. The only thing I'd say is that if you're not being trained by your trainer, don't be afraid to raise your hand.
    Good luck

No pay starter company? Granted good pay is a subjective topic.
7 months in my own truck at Millis after going through their CDL training I couldn’t be happier. Easily going to top 50,000 this year. No issues with miles which is impressive because I’m not a go getter. I pay to much attention to delivery time when the majority of time I could deliver early.

I like the fact they have $100 deposit to hold spot $400 when class starts it really does keep out the majority of riff raff. First week out with Trainer you get that money back and then some.
